Why Is It Called an "Upset" Team?

Don't get it at all.

Almost every season some random playoff team pops out of nowhere and makes it to the Finals.

EVERY YEAR, no one sees it coming and the whole world is shocked by the magical Cinderella run that this team makes.

Do we just like building up stories for the media like this, or are people that delusional?

(I'll tell you who the real upset teams are, though - the so-called "contender" teams that everyone expects to make it to the Finals, some time or another. St. Louis, Philadelphia, Toronto (fanbases that might be hypnotized too much by the media though ))

Because when powerhouse teams such as Detroit, Colorado, and Vancouver are watching Anaheim play New Jersey in the finals...it's upsetting and painful having to watch it.

The good teams are supposed to win and the weaker teams are supposed to lose. When it's vice-versa it's an upset.
