St. Louis Blues/Central Division

The Blues are 4th in the western conference after having played 2 or 3 games less than every team ahead of them(just 1 point behind Dallas and Minnesota even though the Stars have played 3 more games and the Wild 2 more games).

And of course every team in the Central is above .500 and in the playoff hunt. With almost 1/3 of the season gone, I think it's time that someone pointed this out and that the Central is more than just the Red Wings.

Just sayin. Discuss.

I don't think you'll find any Central fans who would say it's just the Wings. As a Wings fan, I'm pretty pleased to see the competition level on the rise. It just makes for better hockey and that's never bad imo.

However I do think the recognition is there as evidenced by some earlier discussions here.

First round loss in 4 of the last 5 years in the "Cup hunt," seems a bit underwhelming to me.

I think St. Louis has a solid team together. Kariya, Fatchuk, Boyes, Stempniak,Rucinksy, Weight. is a Good top 6. and their D is Solid, and Legace/Toivinen is a pretty good duo.

What, because the Blues haven't won a cup I can't point out that the Wings have choked in the playoffs for most of this decade, despite their high talent level?

Try again.

I fail to see how Nashville can be considered a heavyweight if St. Louis and Chicago aren't? I can see how you could think Columbus may not be (though I wouldn't underestimate them) but what does Nashville have the St. Louis and Chicago don't?

A record of 4-5-2 vs. the other 4 teams in the Central suggests that it's not "still just the Red Wings."

Please ... please ... PLEASE offer me a bet on Nashville finishing 2nd in the Central, and give me double-or-nothing on Nashville finishing ahead of St. Louis this season.

Nashville with its 2.88 Team GAA would be hard-pressed to keep up this pace and make the playoffs. Chicago has a much better offense and has kept its Team GAA at a manageable level. The Blues have a weak offense but balance it with strong defense and outstanding goaltending and PK. But we'll find out.

I'm bitter? Wow, the pot calling the kettle black. I can just as easily say you're bitter for losing consistently to lower seeded teams in the playoffs. Oh wait, I just did.

Hey fellow Blues fans, please come down. I know it is great to be in the position that we are in right now. But 1 fact still remains. The Central division goes through Detriot, ans much as it hurts to say. They have run over the entire division for the last decade. It is just the cold hard facts. But The central has gotten allot more exciting since the Blues/Hawks are back. And Blue Jackets are not far behind. Nashville has just taken too many hits this offseason and season.

SO lets all just tip back a few cold ones back and enjoy some great hockey between these teams in the central division.

No one's saying that the Wings aren't the best team in the Central, but with that .898 save percentage and a fairly soft roster, they'll probably get over 100 points again, but will most likely continue their playoff failures.

The only problem with that is when you drop the Blackhawks out of it the record against drops to 4-2-1, still better than the rest of the league really but not as impressive.

I think this is the key here. Last season the Predators gave up a ton of shots against, in fact most games they were outshot. Their goaltending bailed them out. This season, they probably have the weakest goaltending in the Central. Factor in all of the losses up front and that Chicago & St. Louis have improved their rosters, and it's going to be very difficult for them to stay #2 behind the Wings. I just don't see how it could happen.

As a Wings fan, the Central has definitely become more than just the Wings. Our divisional record alone is proof of that. However, I think it's still nothing more than a race for #2. While they are improved, I still don't think any of the other teams will threaten the Wings for the division title. Chicago looks like they might in a couple of seasons though.

The Blues seem to be this year's Nashville.

Good on them for turning around the franchise. Them and the hawks.
