The ducks could only get draft picks or prospects back in a trade for one of the 3 d men mentioned. They can't take on any more payroll.

I would love to have Beauchimen on the Devils, too bad we have nothing of value really to give back to the ducks, prospects wise really.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but the only places I see the word "tagged" in the CBA are if a team is signing a multiyear contract extension, signing a multiyear UFA after Dec 1st, or acquiring a player with a multiyear contract.

I don't see how the Ducks not having any tagged space affects the ability of Niedermayer to come back, it just means we can't trade for anyone with a multiyear contract, sign Selanne for a multiyear contract, or extend Perry.

I could be missing something but it seems like the Ducks don't have to move anyone. On the other hand, they should move O'Donnell, because we can't have a #5 defenseman making 1.2 million dollars. Preferably for a cheap scorer.

Buyer beware with Beauchemin... his stats have fallen off the earth compared to last year. i.e His PK numbers are brutal.

Pronger is still golden strangely enough and MS is still doing well...

Yeah, I don't understand why a team has to make sure they are under the cap for future seasons. Maybe the rule is being interpreted incorrectly or something. What if the cap is increased during the offseason and the Ducks were forced to trade away players for no reason?

It has been quite obvious for the past 3-4 months that Niedermayer was coming back. The only question has been: "When?".

It is unfortunate, however, that the Ducks have to trade away some of their depth in the process. It reduces the impact of Niedermayer returning. Having Niedermayer is better than having Schneider or Beauchemin though, so it may be needless to say that the Ducks will improve with Niedermayer's addition.

Anaheim would be idiots to trade a good, younger defenseman signed cheap, a potential top-5 pick, last years first rounder for Staal.

He is an outstanding 3-4 defenseman for the money he makes.

A guy capable of being a 28-30 minute defenseman who only makes $1.65 million is a very good asset.

I think you'll see a follow up Capital- Ducks deal. Washington passed over Bryzgalov, when he was on waivers and got a 2nd for Sutherby. I doubt that it's the end of the story.

I think we need some facts of how much $$ they need to move. If it's more than 1.65 million I think Burke will have a hard time moving Schneider @ 5.65 million for 2 years.

You would think any team that has cap space or budget would have used it by now.

Younger then who? Isn't Beauchimen around 28 years old? Potential top 5 pick maybe so, but Staal IMO is worth a risk. Especially with the promise that that player contains

Burke is in a crappy situation where he can't take on another roster player when he trades one of his defensemen. So it'll most likely be some AHL players and picks that go the other way to land one of O'Donnell, Beauchemin or whomever else the Ducks will trade.

I would love to see Beauchemin in Pittsburgh, but if that's the type of offer that will land him in Pittsburgh, i hope Shero doesn't do it.

I doubt Anaheim trades anyone significant. They could dump Marchant and something else and than sort it out in the offseason. I hope nobody lets them off the hook and trades for Schneider!

They'll have to move somone. Neidermayer is under contract but because hes "suspended" by the team that money isnt accounted for in the cap. Once he comes back it is and the Ducks will be over the cap.

I think that Schneider is by the far the most likely to me moved. With Beauchimen leading the Ducks defense in ice time, I can't see them moving him and his affordable deal. Also, as mentioned, O'Donnell doens't make enough.

Except they've been operating at 44 million so far because Niedermayer's suspended space still takes up cap space temporarily. The Ducks have had to keep the cap space for him to come back at any time. If he returns the Ducks will be "over" the cap, but only because of Hiller's bonuses.

In fact, read the first sentence of the 4th paragraph of the original article.

"The Ducks do not have any salary cap issues this season that would prevent Niedermayer from re-joining the team."

I somewhat agree with this regarding O'Donnell, but I think you are vastly underrating Beauchemin's value. Even though Burkes hands are somewhat tied, there is still going to be ample demand from other teams to get fair value.
