David Legwand

I don't get to see the Predators play often(vs. Tor. tonight).

What opinion do the regulars on this board have of David Legwand?

Given how high he was drafted, is he a disappointment?

Is a future as a franchise player still in the cards for him?

thanks

In his first few years a lot of people thought he was a waste. Most only saw that he didn't put up Lecavalier like numbers so they were disappointed. But he has always been one of the most defensively responsible players on the team.

In the last couple of years though he has really started to put the scoring with the defense and been one of our best forwards on the team.

Yeah... this is pretty much spot on. I was new to hockey when the Preds came to town and got hooked. But I wondered why someone taken so high in a draft and had such good numbers in juniors wasn't doing so well for us.

Then as I learned the game on a deeper level I began to appreciate what Legwand brought to the table. He may never (again) be the leading scorer for this team, but he is the best overall (well-rounded maybe is what I mean) player on the team. He played on our top line last season and the only thing keeping him from being on our top line this season is a decent top 4 winger to replace Fiddler IMO. He plays PK (one of our best forwards on the PK, if not the best) and is one of the few players we have that has any skill at bringing the puck in on the PP (the only forward?).

Hope that helped answer your question.

He is so good defensively that he is able to create a ton of offensive chances. It is a shame that this year he has not had two good wingers, as I truly believe that he could be a ppg player this year.
