I don't want to get into too much detail about the voting, but Guelph recieved 1 more 1st place vote than NJ and Flin Flon.

Third round votes have been sent. What's the deadline going to be to get votes in? Monday night again?

I quick reminder to get your votes in today.

We need to find out who's doing write-ups as well. MXD says he can't do them this time. With only 4 series, you need to put in your claim quick.

That's 8 p.m. Pacific time, for those who struggle with those calculations.

Since I don't have any writers to send the results to, I'll extend the deadline to when I get up in the morning. Hopefully we will have some writers and over half the GMs voting by then.

I'll take Aurora vs. New Jersey. Sorry, BM, I didn't know you were in desperate need of writers or I'd have volunteered earlier.

Suggestion (from a guy whose team just hit the golf course)....

Let's try to get this round done today or tomorrow, and then get the conference finals done by December 22. We would then give the final some extended discussion, partly because it's the final and it's for the grand-daddy of honours in HF, and partly due to the Christmas/New Year's break. That would mean crowning the champion somewhere around January 4 to 6.

We would then immediately move into the minor league draft. I know VanI has suggested starting the minor league draft during the conference final. I prefer to wait until after our champion is crowned - we don't want to take attention away from that - and I'm not keen on doing an actual draft during the Christmas holidays.

Agreed! Last time we started the minor league draft during Pit and Kruezer's final and the final didn't have the same feel as the one before.

Okay then. We'll simply start the SIGN-UP thread for the minor league draft during the championship series and get the minor league draft going after the playoffs, in the new year.

I'd like to be the first to request the writing duties for the terrific Montreal vs. New Jersey Conference Finals matchup, though I will naturally understand if a GM with longer tenure on this board is given the task.

It's interesting to see how different the finalists are this time around with respect to their draft position. This time we see 3 out of 4 teams also having 3 out of the first 4 picks. Last time reckoning had the highest pick at #8 and 3 out of 4 finalists first picked in the twenties.

A total of 248 players and coaches have made it to the Final Four since we've started the playoff format.

Only three players (all still playing now) have made it to the conference finals all three times:
- Bobby Rousseau (won 2 Milt Dunnell Cups)
- Hap Holmes (lost in the MD Finals twice)
- Bert Olmstead (lost once in the MD finals, once in the conference finals)

Two coaches (both still coaching) have made it to the final four twice:
- Hap Day (won MD Cup)
- Dick Irvin (lost in conference finals)

The goalies with the most final four appearances are:
- Hap Holmes (lost in the MD Finals twice, still active now)
- Johnny Bower (won MD Cup, lost in conference finals)
- Normie Smith (won MD Cup, still active now)
- Roger Crozier (lost in conference finals, still active now)
- Rollie Melanson (lost in conference finals, still active now)

Bower is the only goalie who was a starter more than once.

Each of the Big Four have made the final four once. So far, only Gordie Howe has won the MD Cup.

This is the most interesting statistic for me. While all great goalies, it's interesting that no one on that list would get any real consideration in a Top 3 list of all-time, heck a Top 5 List. I've always been someone who looked at the goalie as a critical part of any team. When I participated in the ATD last year I used it as a deciding barometer more than once (atlhough I did consider many other factors in generally assessing the series).

I agree, it's also been my philosophy from the start as well. Benedict this time around is the weakest starter I've had and I consider him to be in the top-10 for goalies.

A great team can make up for a below-average starter (see that New Jersey team with Lumley) but personally, I don't like leaving that question up in the air.

Yeah, I find the safest bet is the mid-pack goalies, 7-15th all-time sort of range.

Don't waste a first round pick on a goalie, that's the lesson learned.

I think your lesson should be, don't wait until your 5th pick to get a forward...
