Legwand Signed for 6yr 27 mill extension - OFFICIAL
A well respected source on NP.com [Reg Dunlop] has stated that his sources tell him that Legwand has signed a 27 million 6 yr extension [4.5 mill/yr cap hit].
Fair contract, IMO.
This would be an awesome sign as David has told me personally that he had no interest in signing if he sensed the Preds weren't dedicated to winning.
Hopefully we will see an official announcement soon.....
that would be great. Knocking out the Legwand and Weber signings would be a nice goodwill gesture by the new ownership on many levels.
-It sends a message to fence sitting ticket holders that they'll invest in players.
-It sends a message to us, the hardcore fans that have propped this franchise up in the lowest times that we don't have to worry about constantly losing our developed players when they hit the market.
-It sends a message to David Poile that the hard work and patience he's exhibited over the years is appreciated. If they let Legwand and Weber, etc. walk, why would David Poile want to stick around to start all over again? In a weird way, I don't know if we'd want that, considering his slow pace and patience.
I do have one question...i see people saying "Reg Dunlop" has good sources, but I'm not familiar with the history. What info has he/she given in the past to solidify this reputation? Just want to know what level to raise my hopes. We are talking about a website that just had someone say the preds are on the verge of a move because someone was wearing a gordie howe jersey at the hermitage hotel.
Can't answer it without compromising my sources, but I wouldn't have written it if I didn't have complete confidence in it.....hope that helps.
What I can say is there were statements regarding signings, the captaincy and alternates, as well as certain injuries that were well in advance of public knowledge that proved to be dead on.....the problem is that I can't remember what was stated publically or privately to me that I can cite more specifically.
That's a good deal for the club AND Legwand ... 6 years is a pretty good amount of time and 4.5 per AVERAGE is a nice chunk of change, especially in this city/county/state
If this is true and given Legwand's comments then the Predators management/ownership has sent a message to all of the fans that they are committed to being competitive which is such a breath of fresh air. If this signing is true then I guess I need to let go of much of the skepticism I been holding on to.
Its funny because I just said the other night on the other boards that Legwand has become our best player, with Erat turning into a bona-fide star winger.....Things are looking up right now.
If this is true, I really think this is a terrific signing.
From the Predators perspective this deal is much better and makes a lot more sense than signing Hartnell for 6 years at 4.2 million per year. Who knows, if we had made a run at resigning Hartnell, Legwand's signing might not have happened and I would much rather see Legwand at 4.5 than Hartnell at 4.2.

A great deal and one that I think really signifies that the new ownership group isn't going to take a wait and see approach. I love that they are allowing Poile to do his job and continue with his vision for the Predators. On the business side of things I think we'll see some changes too, which can only be a good thing.
Pretty good crowd last night at the game considering how many empty seats there were 10 minutes prior to game time, especially given that it is finals week at almost all of the local colleges.
Legwand is a very underrated player because of the fact that he plays in Nashville and that he has only recently begun to put up bigger numbers offensively. However, as Enoch said, Legwand has become our best overall player this season and I truly think he is one of the key pieces to the puzzle as well. Great pick and long-term vision by Poile and also have to give props to Leipold for allowing things time to develop. Even after all of our turmoil the past six months, this is a solid team and a solid organization. I'm proud to be a Predators fan!
We desperately need a powerplay specialist as well.
Word is that if the ownership fiasco didn't occur this summer, Poile had planned to sign Jeff Hamilton for PP and shootout duties. Another opportunity will come along soon, I have faith in Poile to get the pieces necessary.
Hopefully this isn't an all our eggs in one basket and we get at least Weber and Erat.
However, Dumont might be the odd man out if we sign Weber and Erat.
Agreed, I think that Dumont might be let lose if we sign both Weber and Erat to long-term deals. However, if JP likes it here in Nashville and believes we have a shot at contending in the near future, then we might see him stick it out here with an extra year or two of security and a little less money.
We desperately need a powerplay specialist as well.
Can Sullivan get back in time to be that specialist/scorer? Worst case scenario, if he has to shut it down and retire would the Predators be able to use his salary in the free agent market over the summer?
