Tonight will go a long way in determining how the East will go down.

The last two days will ultimately decide how the East will be...it's gonna come down to the Toronto vs Ottawa game and the two NJ vs BOS games. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up OTT vs NJ and then TOR vs BOS.

To be honest, it sounds more like you're trying to convince yourself.

We hate you, sure. But know that you'll beat us? Give us a break. That's going a little far. We have faith in our team come the playoffs, because we know that every player in the lineup steps it up come the postseason. Not to mention the one other thing that no one else has - Martin Brodeur. Only Ed Belfour comes close in terms of playoff experience and proof of being a playoff performer.
From a devil fan who goes by Macho King2003-004:
Careful what you wish for popi, Phili has never come out ahead of the Devils in a playoff series. If Stevens is out, then you'll have us.

Just without #4 in the lineup, our chances improve. Then adding JR, Primeau and Desjardins back as well also bodes well.
I'm not saying it to convince myself. The Flyers beat the Devils once with JR & Primeau in the lineup and without Stevens. They also beat them twice without #97 & #25 in the lineup.
I don't need convincing. Everyone knows this team is different without Stevens.

Ya I guess if you're concentrating on the higher seeds in the conference, I'm talking about the 8th seed.

That would be great....when was the last time Toronto played Boston in a series?

3. Jersey - 102 PTS - Will win the rest of their games
4. Boston - 103 PTS - Will beat Carolina and Wash. and lose last two to Jersey
5. Ottawa - 102 PTS - Will lose in last game to Leafs falling one point short
6. Philly - 100 PTS - Will only win one more against the Islanders
7. Montreal - 97 PTS - Will win the rest of their games
8. Islanders - 86 PTS - Will lose the rest of their games

I am not sure who would get second or fourth if Toronto and Boston finished tied for points does any one know.
Updated standings after tonights games

1. Tampa Bay 106 PTS
2. Boston 102 PTS
3. Philly 100 PTS
4. Ottawa 100 PTS
5. Toronto 99 PTS
6. New Jersey 98 PTS
7. Montreal 91 PTS
8. Islanders 88 PTS
9. Buffalo 85 PTS

I have it all planned out on how the Leafs will take second in the east. Ottawa will beat Philly, The Leafs will win the rest of their games of course. Jersey will take 3 of 4 points from Boston Pushing Jersey past Philly for third but not high enough to beat the Leafs out for second. Philly will also lose on my Birthday to the Islanders eliminating the Knives from the playoffs.

For the longest time i didnt want a leafs/sens matchup first round because of the fatiguing factor, but now seeing the other matchups, it would be awesome to see. Every series would be great. Habs/B's would be unbelievable. I would think that series would bring the Bruins back into the fold as being one of the best hockey cities around. No better way to do that then playing your historical arch rival.
Devs/Flyers would be amazing for all the same reasons, just not as historically dated. They obviously have alot of turmoil between them, and alot of sweat and blood would be shed. Those are 3 great series, and then there is Tampa trying to make a name for themself, and buff and Islanders trying to hold on. All of those series would be unbelievable. So a Sens/Leafs series would be epic, even if it was in the first round.

The NE division seems to be causing alot of problems. But, there are a few key games this weekend:

Ottawa @ Philly: Philly could pull ahead of NJ for the divisional lead here, and Ottawa could catch boston.
Toronto @ Buffalo: A loss in Buffalo could put the Leafs out of the conference race while a loss to Toronto puts Buffalo out of good.

NYI @ Carolina: An NYI win clinches the playoff birth for NYI (and eliminates Buffalo) and potentially puts the NYI in a position to sneak up for the 7th seed.

Home and Home: Boston vs. NJ- This series is huge for both teams. Should be interesting. Also a potential playoff matchup

Buffalo @ Montreal- If Buffalo is elimiated, Montreal needs at least a point to secure 7th in the East. if not, a win in philly by the Isles could match up the lightning vs habs.

Toronto @ Ottawa: Could be the difference between facing Montreal and Facing NJ in the 1st round.

Philly @ NYI- another game that could be VERY interesting depending on the outcomes of the other games. If Buffalo is still in it, the Isles will NEED this game. If the NJ Devils are in, the Flyers will NEED this game as well. Or, they both could clinch by then, and it not matter at all.

Predicted outcome:

#1. Tampa- 106 pts
#2. Ottawa -104 pts
#3. Philadelphia- 102 pts
#4. Boston- 104 pts (loses tiebreaker in wins)
#5. NJ- 100 pts
#6. Toronto-99 pts (loses final 2 games in Buffalo and Ottawa)
#7. Montreal- 91 pts
and, at number 8, getting in on a last minute goal in Carolina which sent it to OT....
#8. Sabres- 89 pts. Just BARELY squeeze in, but beat the Isles in wins tiebreaks
#9. Islanders- 89 pts. Milbury is FINALLY FIRED!!!!

On another note. It has been reported that Joe Thornton is injured and is day to day. Has any one else heard any details on his injury. This really helps the Leafs chances of getting second in the East. GO DEVILS GO.

You have no class because : You are openly expressing your joy that other player is injured so Leafs can win division.

Too bad I can't send this to the B's locker room.

I never said I was happy that Big Joe was hurt. Joe Thornton happens to be my favorite player. I said it hurts the bruins chances and helps the Leafs chances. I just feel the Devils are tough enough already and without Joe it might be a tough go for the Bruins.

Yeah your a homer, and being that confident just solidifies it. This is more than a one man team, and these are the defending Stanley Cup Champs while the Flyers past is much less impressive. Plus you have no answer for Martin Brodeur, the series can go either way, but you are being naive.

Well... Would you like to read something like this if let's say Belfour went down?

I would never post anything like that even if I hate opposing team and fans.

OTOH... I fully expect certain Bruins players to step their game up and do everything to win. They've done it once in 2001 when Joe was out of lineup for the last 1.5 month and they still won division.

You are looking way too far into his post. He only stated facts. If Thornton gets hurt, the chances that the Leafs have to win the division is higher. He capped it off by saying that he wants the Devils to win. Considering he is a Leafs fan, he wants New Jersey to win. Nowhere in the post did he say anything about him being happy Thornton was out, so calm down.

We're all bitter and loaded up with misplaced anger in Bruins Nation because our best player got injured by some pylon on the Caps, so we might have a tendency to take some/any Thornton remark out of context for the next few days until we hear his prognosis. Sorry for the confusion.

The East is a toss up between Tampa and NJ.
