Canucks fan on Marc Staal? opinions?

Hey Rangers fans, I havent seen the Rangers play that much at all this year so I was just wondering what your guys opinion was on Marc Staal. Is this kid already a star on the Rangers blueline? Will he be a future all star defencman in the league? Is he already proving that he can play against other teams big lines? And is he been one of the Ranger top defencman this year?
Thanks for your opinions I just havent had any time to see him play and I was wondering if the kid is the real deal. Thanks

I wouldn't call him a star yet, but he's been better than I think the team and most fans expected he'd be this early. With the exception of a few rookie mistakes, he's been very steady.

Yes.

Yes. He's been part of the top defense pair for a good chunk of games, and seems to thrive under the pressure of extra minutes or tougher competition.

He's definitely been in the top four all season, even when he was playing 3rd pair minutes earlier in the season. The others who I'd consider the top 4 (Rozsival, Tyutin, Girardi) have had better and worse stretches than he has, while he's been pretty consistent.

His instincts are unreal for someone his age, especially as a Dman. His patience nad confidence with the puck is that of a vet, and it will even get better.

And anytime he is overmatched or misplays a move, his long reach and savy stick work covers so much ground.

Us Likey.

Pretty much, our young D actually shows up most games and plays nasty. They're the only ones scoring too.

You're joking right? Just look at the stats

Edler - 1G 6A +10
Staal - 1G 4A +3

There's just no way Staal is better

I would say he is about what I expected, just at an accerlated rate, so he should continue to progress & be really solid by the Playoffs (if we make the PO's)

put it this way..he starts the year on the 3rd pairing, and now has pushed malik out of the lineup and is playing on the first pairing.....all before he can legally drink.

To be fair, Malik had to get injuried first...because like Malik is soooooooo good it would only take an injury for him to lose his spot on the 1st pairing.

You are dreaming - he's a rookie - he is not a great player yet - and may never be.

I saw the NHL highlights of the Rangers/Devils game today. He made a couple of mistakes and almost gave away a goal. His offensive stats aren't amazing neither are some of his stick handling skills when he's being slightly pressured by the forecheck. Give him one or two years in the NHL.

I just wish he would shoot the puck more when he has the chance. His first goal was a beauty. He should be more authoritative with the puck.

he cant even drink yet. stuff like that is going to happen. But for his age, he is unbelievably poised, and you can see the offensive game is there. Hes starting to take the puck deep, and trying to make things happen a bit here and there. you see flashes of a great great player. I think people who said he reminds them of this guy are dead on.
