Is Joe Thornton the deciding factor on the Bruins playoffs?

Can the Bruins win a series if Joe Thornton is unavailable to play for them? I mean, clearly if Raycroft is a dominating force and wins series the way Patrick Roy did they've surely still got a shot, but would Thornton being out (if Raycroft does not play Roy-like) kill the Bruins playoffs?

(I'm well aware anything can happen, but basically the question is, if you were the Bruins, would you be mortified to hear Thornton is out for any prolonged period of time?)

Joe Thornton is only 20 something , and he's already a superstar ! I think hes the best overall player in the league , yes better than Forsberg . Thornton can lau huge hits , Deke , score with the best of them with useless talent . Murray is made from Thornton , Samsonov Is made from Thornton . Forsberg has sooo much Talent with him , yet last year he almost lost the race . Thornton has to actually make the plays .

Big Joe is the key to the Bruins playoffs, that's for sure. However, I don't think they'll be out in four if he's not there.

Agreed, I just felt like making 2 ridiculous options (out in 4, and who needs Joe?).

The goaltender is allways the breaking point of how far the team goes. Raycroft is the key to their playoff success.

That's right, Raycroft is the key... The lineup without Thornton isn't too bad, actually.

Knuble-Bergeron-Murray: Bergeron can fill in for a little while until Thornton's back
Samsonov-Nylander-Green: Played extremely well together before, and have been the best line for the B's against NJ today.
Axelsson-Rolston-Lapointe: They've been together for like 3 years, no reason to break it up now
Zamuner-Donato-Grosek: Decent defensive line (except Grosek, he's only there for grit)

Definitely not as good as with Thornton, but a good enough lineup to win a few games before Joe's back. But with or without Thornton, Raycroft is the most important piece of the Bruins team. He started slow today, but since the first period, he's been incredible. He can steal a few games if necessary.

Samsonov doesn't play on Thornton's line.
Samsonov has actually played very little with Thornton in their careers.

However, yes, I'm afraid the Bruins need Thornton if they want to win anything.

Thorton is important but in the playoffs goalkeeping is so much more important. Losing a forward can be absorbed, even if it's a superstar.
