Stars Contacted Blues About Trades

During the December 7 game in Edmonton, the Canadian channel interviewed JD, who told the reporter Brett Hull had contacted members of the Blues organization and was sniffing around.

Any thoughts on what the Stars need, and better yet, what they have to offer?

Could have inquired about our excess of defensemen. I think they have an incredibly valuable trading piece in Smith. With Legace being injury-prone, I'd pick up Smith in a trade for a defenseman in a second. ...depending on the defenseman, of course.

I don't think The Blues should waste valuable trade assets on another goalie. Legace, Toivonen and Schwartz are good enough, even for any current problems. The Blues need more young scoring forwards (at least one centre and one winger). They should use their best trade assts to obtain those.

Short of Modano and maybe Jussi Jokinen(only if MJ is part of the deal); there is nothing on the Star's that I'd be interested in. We're already set on the wing so adding Morrow or Lehtinen doesn't help us there and further ties up our Cap to keep us from addressing our issues at center.

And I seriously doubt Hull would even talk about trading Modano for a D man and some prospects/picks(which is all we'd be willing to offer).

I agree that we don't need another goalie, at least right now.

As for Modano: A) I don't think the Stars will trade him. B) Do we really need another veteran forward? C) Aren't the Stars the only team Modano has played for? He will probably retire a Star and move to the front office with Hull.

I believe we need help with the power play, and another goal scorer (or two) to help balance the lines.

Jokinen, Hagman, and Ribeiro(sp?) would be fantastic pickups.

Don't know if any of them would be available, though....

With such a deep draft class, we should be stock piling draft picks. We want Weight, Walt, and Ruckinsky off the books, why would we want MM?

I don't think the Stars and Blues would be good trading partners at this point.

Both teams really need scoring, so you won't be able to find a match there. The Blues certainly have an abundance of d-men, but the Stars need forwards instead. So cross that off the list. The Blues can't afford to give the Stars a scorer, because we need to ADD one and not subtract one, so you can cross that off the list, and I don't see any goalies being swapped either. The Stars have Smith and Turco, and the Blues are set with Legace, Toivonen, and Schwarz. No match there either.

Both teams are better off looking elsewhere...

I hope the Blues do make a trade soon though.

Of course he contact the Blues as GM that is his job - to find out who is available and to try and better the team. I wouldn't be stunned to learn that most GMs talk atleast once every couple of weeks just to check and see what is going on.

Or then Brett was looking for his golden touch. Something left in the innards of the old barn.

the stars aquired jussi timonen just three days ago from the flyers. they needed depth on defense. i'm pretty sure that was the reason they contacted the blues too.
