Not for Komisarek nor Price nor any other player on the roster or even Lecavalier if we ever sign him one day.

5 years contracts ftw !!

The longer you go the lower average salary the player should accept.

If He was to accept $24M I'd say go!

Depends on the annual bargain you get out of extending the term. If it's 12 years at more than $60M, I don't think it's enough of a potential savings to take on the risk of the extreme term. 12 years at $45M would be ok, though. Although I'd rather find a deal at 10 years for him, at his age. 12 years is kind of pushing it.

the way he plays makes 12 years too long, he blocks many shots and hits so many guys that it could take a toll on his body. 6 or 7 years sounds good to me though

I do it if he accepted 3 mil per year for the entire period....front or back loaded whatever. So for 36 mill or less I'd lock up Komi like that for 12 years...he seems like the kind of character player that will have an amazing career, and IMHO he is only going to get better for atleast the next 10 years.

Komisarek is one of my favourite players. IMO, he's our next captain. However, I do not like seeing players getting long term contract... since a player could sit on his contract... theo was supposed to be our franchise goalie for the next decade. he failed and got traded. what would have happened if gainey offered him a 10 year contract at 7 million/season...

Not 12 years, but I would probably be willing to hand him an 8 or possibly 10 year contract.

Yeah i agree some players in the past have "sat" on there long term contracts but i don't see Komisarek as one of those types. with certain players you don't have to worry about those kinds of things they play hard no matter what and i believe guys like Komi and Higgins are this way.

I agree. Komisarek is bank. You know he's gonna bring it every year.

For me, I say yes. But only in rare cases like this, depending on the deal.

All's I know is that I wouldn't be disappointed if Gainey announced a press conference tomorrow and signed Komi and Higgins to 12 year contracts. Same goes for Price.

Well let's see if it happens in July for Komisarek. I'm not sure I'd hand Higgins a long contract, only because I don't think he's worth as much and it would be difficult to agree on a number I think.

It always depends of the amount of money you give him, but $4-4.5M / y for 12 years would make sense. Maybe even more, since he could be worth $5M per year on his next contract.

But Komisarek is a pretty safe signing.

Awards:
I voted no, but yes for another player only because by rule I would never give a defenseman one of those contracts just because the grind they have to endure.

But a forward like Zach Parise - in a heartbeat.

Nah, too young. Well, it depends of the "price" tag, but many goalies had great start of career, and then began to suck.

Agreed. 5-6 years max. To many variables for anything longer, the cap could in theory go down, etc.

how old would he be at the end? 39?

I'm all for 6-8 years but there's no way I give 12 years.
