Cap issues or not, that's just not a very good move on Burke's part.

The space he has to clear is for next year, Weight is a UFA next year.

It's not rocket science.

An absolute steal by St. Louis.

St. Louis is going to be cup contender in a few years.

Ducks shed 3.33 million dollars for next season with this move. Both players really have not been producing this season

Major credit should go to ericnut

He broke this yesterday

Trade market is rough for Burkie this winter. Nothing for Bryzgalov and now this. Well, maybe Dougie will catch fire with the Ducks. He is a damn solid player. Old but solid.

Burke must have thought that MacDonald's success was the product of Selanne. Unless teams were holding Burke ransom? Maybe it looked more like this to him:

Anaheim:
S. Neidermayer
Weight

St. Louis:
MacDonald

Either way, Weight is brutal at this point.

Wow ! I'm glad Anaheim is weakening itself: gives the rest of the league a better chance to beat them in the playoffs.

I'd way rather trade Schneider than MacDonald if I was them.

Who needs Schneider when they have Pronger, Neids, Beauchemin, and O'Donnell ?

I guess this is also to re-sign Corey Perry.

They better, cuz they're getting weak at centre.

Why not trade O'Donnell ?

Or Hnidy + May ?

Andy MacDonald is very good. Congratulations, St. Louis.

Heh. Lucky Blues fans (and they deserve it) if true. But I guess this was the best deal Burke could get, since he was against the wall and the teams knew it. Well, at least no picks/prospects/d men with reasonable contracts are being swapped.

Really? I don't see the point of this deal from a Ducks point of view. McDonald has a $3.333 million cap hit this year and next (And is only 30) where as Weight is making $3.5 million this year and is a UFA at years end (And will be 37 in January).

JD and Company pull off another steal....

I absolutely don't understand the logic behind this from an Anaheim pov.I usually agrees with Burke moves but this one is just puzzling.

The only logical thing i can think of is that Weight is UFA and is salary will be off the hook at the end of the year vs McDonald extra year but even then it makes little sense .They could have gotten better than that for McDonald imho.

Burke wins in this deal too.
He gets to keep his D intact!

C. Pronger
S. Niedermayer
F. Beauchemin
M. Schneider
S. O'Donnell
K. Huskins
S. Hnidy
J. DiPenta

Think of the big picture here folks... Burke gets a leader, plus keeps his D together. He doesn't mind giving, when it allows him to get.
Big win for Burke.

Good trade for STL. Ericnut also reported that Selanne was returning, so would that mean he'd play with Weight?
