So St.Louis got a 1st Round pick and a couple of fringe players for him not too long ago. Now they get Andy McDonald.
The real question is what will St.Louis get for him next year?

Most trades that actually go through in the NHL would get ripped apart on HF...it's quite funny that way.

Anybody else thinking about picking up Selanne in their pools now that ericnut5 called this one correctly?

Shocked to see Doug go, wasn't expecting this at all. But to get McDonald back makes it an exciting trade from the Blues POV.

Good luck to Doug in Anaheim.

For next year. Doug Weight is a UFA next year. Bingo, cap space cleared. It was covered on page one.

Don't worry, he'll get it sorted out just in time to be traded then.

Still not enough room to sign Perry to an extension.

Bye-bye, Corey.

Which would lead one to think Selane is not coming back. I dont really get this trade from a Ducks stand point.

I'm sure Ducks' fans might be a little disapointed, but think of it this way:

Would you trade Andy McDonald for Weight and Scott Niedermayer?

Essentially, that's what this means to the Ducks.

Obviously good value for St. Louis, however.

At least a 2nd, probably. Doug Weight is like the most valuable player ever.

Or, more accurately, would you rather have a washed-up Doug Weight for half a year or Andy McDonald at a very reasonable salary for the next 3 years?

Here's a nice little factoid.

McDonald, this past week, just became the Ducks reigning Ironman.

How has Burke won? He lost a player who has scored 78 and 85 points in the past two years for Doug Weight. This is a brutal trade for the Ducks. Yeah he's gained cap space, but if he didn't make dumbass overpriced signings in the summer than he wouldn't be forced to give up his players.

Not only that but they lost a lot of needed speed in their lineup.

If Burke had to take on a waste of space in Doug Weight for McDonald @ 3.3M, imagine what other cap black holes GMs were offering for Schneider at 5+.

Jose Theodore for Schneider?

Horrible reasoning. If, as it's being hypothesized, Burke made this deal to clear up room next year, wouldn't it make more sense to hold onto McDonald until the season ended and then deal him? You can't convince me that the return would be any less than Weight in the summer. Attaching Niedermayer to this deal might have made sense if McDonald was making 3x the money that Weight is, but he's not, so it doesn't.

Now watch, the Ducks will trade Weight back to St. Louis for a pick and announce the return of Selanne.

Before you jump out of your pants, Andymac hasn't scored over 30 points without Selanne on his wing nad has regressed a lot this year too without Teemu. So it's not like he's a perennial 80-point guy. Allthough i think he'll click well with the speedy Blues team.

Get's a half way replacement for McDonald. Not equal value, McDonald is better.

Burke get's rid of McDonald salary for next season. He'll used those saved 3.333+ x to sign Cory Perry to an extension. That's what I meant by long term salary cap considerations.

BTW, you are an Oiler fan right?
