I agree. The Oilers have there own players that need to be resigned to worry about.

This may be Brian Burke's worst trade. I am not completely sure of his history but this is ridiculous, and personally I don't believe it one bit.

Let's compare the two shall we:

Performance:

Doug Weight: 11 points, only on pace for 31 points in the whole season!
Andy McDonald: Only 16 points, and only on pace for 40 but it is still an improvement.

Age:

Doug Weight: 36 years old, and this could most definitely be his last season in the NHL.
Andy McDonald: 29 years old, and still has plenty of years to go, plus, he is hitting his prime.

Contract:

Doug Weight: Is making $3.5 million this year, and then to cap it all off, he is a free agent next year even if he does continue to play!
Andy McDonald: Is making $3.33 million this year and next.

Now sure, next year they will shave off some salary to re-sign Perry, but this won't help them bring back Scott Niedermayer one bit.

Burke, you suck!

WOW!!! So Ducks are probably not trading any D now and will try to get Selanne for this half season. What if Neidermayer retires after this season? Then the Ducks have MORE THAN the cap space they need to sign Perry.

It's a bit shocking, I'm not exactly sure why Burke would do this, but a lot of questionable things he's done has worked out.

I don't think this is a trade you make if you're the Ducks and you're looking to trade MacDonald. A lot of people knew he was overrated, but Weight is on the downside. I think I would have given Andy Mac more time or trade him in a package for someone better.

I think this is leading to something else for Anaheim. I also think they want to keep Weight through this season. This isn't about Niedermayer.

I think there might be more to come from Burke, and I'd like to see confirmation of the exact terms of this deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is more going back Anaheim's way.

I'm not trolling.

I am, however, enjoying watching the Brian Burke bubble burst. The guy walked into a dream situation in Anaheim and had a couple of amazing players fall into his lap and got anointed as the king of the world.

He makes questionable decisions with regularity and some of them have come home to roost here. The longer he's with the team, the more hamstrung it will become. That's all.

Bertuzzi - Weight - Selanne
Kunitz - Getzlaf - Perry

Niedermayer - Beauchemin
Pronger - Schneider
O'D - Huskins

Need i say more? Weight will produce with Selanne and Bertuzzi.

You're seriously overestimating Bertuzzi and Weight.

Both of them on the top line? Selanne's good, but he's not a miracle worker.

He has all of his draft picks for 2009 [the year he'd have to have them available to tender offer sheets this summer].

I think he does...

The picks given to Anaheim for Penner are this years. Not next years, or the years after.

i cant understand why they would trade mcdonald away if selanne was coming back?? i guess this means

1) selanne isnt coming back
2) if he is, he isnt returning to the ducks

Salary cap space is a commodity. Ottawa traded Peter Schaefer for Shean Donovan this past offseason, mainly because Donovan was cheaper and UFA after this season. Nobody's going to tell you that Donovan is of equal ability to Schaefer, but Ottawa had to start clearing out some longterm cash so they could extend Heatley and Spezza (amongst others).

This is just the sort of trade you're going to see with a salary cap in place. Burke got dealt a weird hand with Niedermayer being on the fence.

P.S. i am also wondering why all these same posters think Selanne will somehow come back and play for free.

It's funny everyone is bashing Burke. What was he supposed to do, save the capspace for a rainy day after his HOF defenceman and top line winger retire? Fact of the matter is, once Nieds returns they have a better defence than last year. If Selanne returns, they are cup favourites.

When are you going to mention that your "inside source" was actually a woman that posts on the Anaheim Duck's messageboard and posted this info a few hours before you posted it here??
