I, for one, am glad Burke is no longer the GM of my team. He has a history of making a big splash in his first couple of years, then sucking it up for the rest of the time. The sucking part has already started in Anaheim. Started last summer.

The funny thing is: Anaheim now could easily sign Selanne for the rest of the season and wouldn't have to create more room under the cap ... another big plus of the deal ...

what does that have to do with this trade?

The funny thing is... all this could've been avoided by not signing Bertuzzi. Or hell, they could've just signed him for 1 year...

They didn't steal Boyes at all. Dennis Wideman is playing #2 minutes on one of the best teams Defensively in the league.

then he would have signed in Detroit

They offered him the same amount over 1 year.

I, for two, is also glad Burke is no longer the GM of your team.

IMO, most people over rate Andy Mac. While I do think he has more upside then the aged Weight, I think this is a fairly even trade. Andy Mac was a 30 pt/season player before Selanne and is looking like that now after Selanne. He might shine again with the Blues but was not worth his contract with the Ducks without Teemu there also.

The ducks have some huge cannons on the blue line and a struggling power play, those are both things a player with the passing ability of Weight can help. I hope this change in scenery will help him also.

You shouldn´t be too confident, the only time Anaheim will touch the cup this season is when they hand it over so the next winners can pick it up.

And you should be worried, some posters here aren´t talking out of their *****. Burke may have brought you the cup, but watch out so his trades wont bring you a decade of misery with missed playoffs.

Don't mind the Blues and I hope that the team makes the playoffs this season. I just don't view them a team which can compete for the Cup in 2008.

Weight might sign those remarks or why else did he waive his NTC? BTW don't worry about it, he'll sign again with the Blues in summer, only to shipped out again in 2008/2009 for the benefit of the Blues. haha!
Duly noted, sir. I share your concern about Toivonen and Schwarz being able to carry the team in Legcae's absence, but in Toivonen's defense, at least, he was hung out to dry in several of those games... particularly in the "Debacle in Denver" the other day.

Thanks, Eric Brewer and Christian Backman...

Yes, Giguere is a solid goalie that can carry the Ducks a long way... but he's not from Krypton, and if he should get hurt, the Ducks are royally fornicated since they unloaded Bryzgalov.

I don't really see the Blues as a team that can win the Cup this year, either, but stranger things have happened, and I'm sure you'll agree that they're much improved over the last couple of years, recent performances notwithstanding.

I think this is a good move for Weight, as it does give him a better chance to win another Cup... and re-signing with the Blues (again) in the off-season is certainly not out of the question.

I was just going to point out:

To Blues:
Andy MacDonald
Jesse Boulerice
Mike Zigomanis
the rights to Magnus Kahnberg
1st in 2006
4th in 2006
4th in 2007

Out:
Doug Weight

Amazing work Blues!

I guess McDonald is an upgrade over Weight at this point of their respective careers, but not by much, especially without a goalscorer like Teemu Selanne on his wing (I highly doubt McDonald will break up the Kariya-Tkachuk-Boyes line in STL).

Weight was getting hot too.

Improving, since Murray took over.

PB, Where do you see McDonald on the Blues?

well, he won a cup in his "big splash" with ANA, and VAN is still cupless so............when you win a championship you can slack off a bit

No, that's utter BS. Selänne hasn't even been to Sweden as those rumours suggested. Not going to happen. If he's coming back as the original source of this trade at the Ducks board wrote, it's probably be after the new year.

Whether his moves have been sucky or not, you can hardly say he's been slacking off... probably the most active GM since they won the cup.

It wasn't Weight playing on that line?

Hang on, folks think *St. Louis* won this deal?

McDonald has been *brutal* without Selanne. Anaheim gets Weight who has been just as good as Andy, plus gets a pick, a prospect, and cap space.

*Clear* win by the Ducks.

I could see them putting him with Kariya and hoping the same thing happens as did with Selanne. Those two would make a VERY fast line... Blues have the cap space and will probably resign Weight in the summer again so they can try to make an even better trade.

Sure the Ducks needed to clear space for next year, but I would think they'd be going for it this year if they are bringing back Selanne (and Niedermeyer)... McDonald with Selanne (and Kunitz) gives them two very good scoring lines (see last year)... then again, Weight could be as effective. It just seems odd giving up someone who has sure chemistry with a star like Selanne. And Weight doesn't really have "veteran experience" over McDonald. Weight might be a better leader, but they have lots of leaders on that team already.

LOL

Last Friday Weight had 0 (ZERO) Goals and 6 (Six) Assists for the season.

Brian Burke drank too much again - Weight, May, Bertuzzi ?
Who cares about the D with Nieds?
They can't win with Prongs, Beach and Schieds.

So Weight is going to keep up with Selanne? ha
- He should sign in St. Louis with Paul and Andy.

No Weight next year.
No Teemu next year.
No Nieds next year.
No Andy next year.
No Bryz next year.

Overpaid Getz, Perry and BertLousy with a overrated goaltender? haha Burke

LOL - This teams stinks like Burke's arrogance - done.

the ducks have a fatalistic D, so im not sure if u r being sarcastic, and although burke has made some questionable moves lately he seems to always have a plan. Im just interested in what his plan may be.

I'd trade half my team away for a Cup.

I agree, but I question whether Weight over McDonald gets them closer to that goal...

If they need the space next year, I'd rather dump McDonald for a pick if that's what it comes to, because I think he makes them better this year.
