Has your team lineup improved this year?

Has your team gotten better because of players traded/acquired? Include players who have stepped up unexpectedly.

For Detroit, this team has definitely improved. Our Defense corps last year was absolutely atrocious which included Bykov, Kuznetsov and Wallin. Ever heard of them? No. Then theres Larionov who was good but getting too old. Robitaille failed miserably here last year and Avery is despensible everywhere he goes. So that leaves us with Fedorov. He left us with a gap that was surprisingly easy to fill.

Goodbye: Fedorov, Wallin, Bykov, Kuznetsov, Robitaille, Avery, Larionov.
Hello: Thomas, Whitney, Hatcher, Lang
New and Improved: Draper, Datsyuk, Legace and Schneider. These guys have stepped up with Feds leaving. Datsyuk, Draper and Legace are all having career years and Schneider was given the chance to be with the Wings for the full season this year and has had the chance to adjust and fit in now.

So, I would say, the Wings have twice as good of a team this year.

Before:

Scoring line 01: Pierre Turgeon - Mike Modano - Scott Young
Scoring line 02: Brenden Morrow - Jason Arnott - Bill Guerin
Checking line 1: Antti Miettinen - Niko Kapanen - Jere Lehtinen
Checking line 2: Steve Ott - Stu Barnes - Rob DiMaio

Def pairing #1: Sergei Zubov - Philippe Boucher
Def pairing #2: Teppo Numminen - Stephane Robidas
Def pairing #3: Don Sweeney - Richard Matvichuk

Starter: Marty Turco
Backup: Ron Tugnutt

After:

Scoring line 01: Brenden Morrow - Jason Arnott - Bill Guerin
Scoring line 02: Stu Barnes - Pierre Turgeon - Scott Young
Checking line 1: Valeri Bure - Mike Modano - Jere Lehtinen
Checking line 2: Shayne Corson - Ott/Kapanen - Rob DiMaio

Def pairing #1: Sergei Zubov - Philippe Boucher
Def pairing #2: Teppo Numminen - Jon Klemm
Def pairing #3: Don Sweeney - Richard Matvichuk

Starter: Marty Turco
Backup: Ron Tugnutt

I'm not exactly sure, but adding Corson, Klemm and Bure brought more depth and creates a way to play all the 3 centers, actually at center. The fact that Turgeon is able to play center now (LW: 30 games, 11 points. CN: 34 games, 30 points in just 10 minutes per game) is pretty much enough for me to see an upgrade. But, I liked the lines better before, to be honest. Pretty big Kapanen fan and would've loved it if the Finnish line remained intacked.

Greatly, I don't have time to go through all the moves but you don't need to look any further than the standings page to find out.

When your team goes 0-14-0-1 in 15 games and turns around and goes 10-3-2...nice.

All in all, I would say we've done rather well for ourselves...Schneider has given us a big boost on defense, and so has Jason Woolley and Jamie Rivers. Manny has done wonders (except for yesterday  ), and we've been blessed with one of the deepest reserve corps in the game (the Grand Rapids connection).

Oilers - oh my god yes... dumping Salo alone improves the team ten fold... adding Nedved helps, and the immergence of Torres, Stoll, Bergeron, Semenov, and the re-emergence of Ulanov... this team is a lot better now.

OH GOD YES! The Wild line up has greatly improved!

Out: Lubomir Sekeras, Sergei Zholtok, Brad Bombardir, Jason Marshall, Brad Brown (only one I really miss), Cliff Ronning, Jim Dowd.

In: Rickard Wallin, Stephane Veilleux, Brent Burns, Zbynek Michalek, Marc Chouinard, Alex Henry, Eric Chouinard (I'll give anyone five bucks to drive this guy out of Minnesota and in the middle of nowhere!), ALEXANDRE DAIGLE!

Wallin has paired up extremely well with Gaborik, Veilleux has been fiesty, Burns had a bad transition until he got moved to defense, Michalek is Michalek got his first assist, Choiunard is made of glass but after a few surgerys has come back strong, Henry was a smart pick up, Mini-Chouinard is...not even fit for the AHL, and Daigle is DA MAN! He has seriously helped this team out a ton!

I am too lazy to go into the past and this years roster for the Flames but we have a #1 goalie, a top scorer who will share the award this year for scoring, and the 3rd best GA against this year AND we did all this with key guys being injuried all season, such as Yelle, Lydman, Rhino, Conroy, Turek. It shows alot for a non playoff team to all of a sudden become a top defensive team and have a player who leads the NHL in scoring while scoring VERY LITTLE in the first 1.5 months of the season.

BEFORE (after pre-season)
Calder-Zhamnov-Radulov
Daze-Ruutu-Sullivan
Nieminen-Arnason-Bell
Strudwick-Nichol-Moen

Klemm-Dempsey
Karpovtsev-Poapst
Kukkonen-Quint

Thibault
Leighton

AFTER
Daze-Arnason-Ruutu
Bell-Yakubov-M Keith
McLean-Nichol-Moen
Nickulas-Korolev-VandenBussche

Berard-McCarthy
Poapst-Vandermeer
Strudwick-Quint

Thibault
Munro

Before looks good, but Thibault is injured for virtually the whole year, Daze is injured for virtually all year, Zhamnov is injured most of the year and then traded, ruutu and nichol are switched, and Klemm is traded and Robidas becomes injured. We really got a good return on Zhamnov. Fraser is a question mark, but Vandermeer has been great for us, providing the toughness our defense needs plus offensive abilities. And a second round pick to boot! (though its not like Philly got robbed, Zhamnovs been doing well over there). Its nice to actually see a YOUNGER TEAM while we're rebuilding for once.

Let's not forget :

In & out:
Jason Wiemer - he started out pretty well, but was less visible down the stretch. He's likely to have ended his stint with the Wild.

Out:
Darby Hendrickson - the poster child for addition by subtraction.

Christoph Brandner - it was fun watching him get totally rocked when skating with his head down.

Flames have added Kiprusoff, Loyns, Nieminen, Simon, Nilson through trade and Commodore by recall only giving up roster players McLennan and Betts (who was out for the year). Although Reinprecht is out for the season so that factors in.

The Flames have improved their depth.
