OT: Lifetime Ban

In talking about the whole Simon incident me and my coworker were trying to come up with a list of players that have received a lifetime ban from the NHL. The only one that came to mind right away was Bob Probert for smuggling cocaine into the US. Anyone else know of any other players to get lifetime bans?

I'm pretty sure that Ogie Oglethorpe was banned from the Federal League

What's the point? Simon's not going to play again.

Most people thought that after the Hollweg incident though. I definitely think this has to be the end for this guy, I don't care how much loyalty Ted Nolan has to him.

I don't think that Simon will get a lifetime ban .... it just came up in conversation and we couldn't come up with anyone else other than Probert. Just looking for any others that might have been banned.

I thought Probert was only indefinitely suspended for that? I mean, he played again after the incident.

Wasn't McSorely at least indefinitely suspended for the Brashear incident?

I can't understand what this guy is thinking on the ice - and then he comes off it and apologizes each time like it was a different person doing it.

When there is that level of uncertainty surrounding a player like that with all of his past suspensions and actions, i think its time for Coly Campbell to suspend him for either the rest of the season and playoffs (something like 60 games) or ban him from the game all together.

The discipline isn't getting through to the guy and I think while its ridiculous to see this guy repeatedly commit these crimes on ice its kinda sad at the same time that he needs help, there's something wrong there.

He can't control himself and hes a danger to the players around him. I still say he's lucky he played last week and that Hollweg is playing tonight, because that stick chop could've ended up a lot worse than it did.

Was he banned from playing games in Canada...

or banned from entering Canada altogether (and thus banned from playing games).

Probert wasn't banned from playing in Canada by the NHL; he was prevented from entering Canada because he was a convicted felon.

You bring up an intresting point. Most(if not all) of his current/former teammates say what a "great" guy he is, they go on and on about his "character". It's kind of puzzling to be honest, someone who gets such praise pulls **** like he has done. Makes you wonder if he isn't stable.

Sounds, like he has a genuine and real problem. I remember watching a Real Sports segment on Ted Nolan and Simon was a big part of it. He stated that he was really heading down the wrong path and that Nolan saved Simon from himself.

Now, he is going for help. Damn, HIPPA laws would love to know the diagnosis they come up with.

In the end, I don't want Chris Simon to ever play for the New York Islanders again, and he shouldn't play in the NHL at all. I just hope for him as a person that he gets his **** together and can become an honorable man and lead a decent life.

Wasn't Brandon Sugden banned for life from the AHL after hitting a spectator with his stick or something? Never played a game in the NHL but boy what a fighter!

Krisitie...

I think the same went for McSorley. He and Gretzky were buds if I remember, and he was well-liked on the teams he played, if I remember. Sometimes on the ice he would snap (see Brashear, as well as he tried to take Beukeboom's eyes out in a fight once). These guys are missing a screw.
