Night Games, how do you wind down?

After a late night game when you get home around 12:00 or possibly later, what do you do to wind down and be able to get to bed. I'm always so amped up after a game that it's hard to get to sleep.

I usually eat some cheese when I get home and that helps a bit, but sometimes I'm still tossing and turning in bed.

It think it just takes awhile for your heart rate to get back down.

I know I'm usually up until 2 AM also.

Don't eat too much food afterwards, just a protein shake and some toast. Screw around on the net for an hour, read a little bit and I fall asleep pretty easily. I also don't drink caffeine after lunch.

Takes me 2-3 hours to calm the heart rate. I usually eat, watch TV and if you still can't fall asleep you can, uh, do what men do best. Then I sleep like a baby.

I hit the gym after night games. I don't know why, but I love working out after games and that's the only way I've found to make me want to sleep when I get home. Still,
M-T-W-F I don't get to bed till after 3 then up for work at 6:15, I don't know why I do it, but there's no way I could stop, lol.

A girlfriend who doesn't mind getting woken up at 12:30 for some action would be the best way I've found to get to sleep, but that's not workin out for me right now

I used to have that problem, but it went away and I can usually fall asleep an hour after the games over. And I also chug a whole XXL size can of Monster Energy drink before the game..

just stay up til like 1 in the mourn all the time. than when you play your game your used to not doing a thing and being up til 1 that the workout you get from the game knocks you right out.

Beer has hops in it, which naturally make you tired. Sam Adams commercials are true - it does have more hops in it. A few of those bad boys and you'll be sleeping in no time. Just don't get drunk or else the sleep isn't as effective.

Hot showers help, and so does a semi-full stomach.

I had a night pick up at sat night (actually sunday morning) from 12:00am to 2:00am. I went to bed at 3:00am and the past two days I've woken up at 1:00pm and 1:30pm.

I would've slept longer but then I realize I'll sleep through the day

you're body is still in a state of go go go so its hard to get some shut eye.

Edited for truth. I'd much rather have a Sam Adams Winter Lager than a Labatt Blue or a Molson. Then there's Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, Miller, Miller Lite, etc. That's not even beer, thats water, and diet water.

Lots of great microbrews down here in Oregon. Miller/Bud/Coors = mule urine.

I Like to make myself a heaping bowl of popcorn. None of that microwave nonsense. Kernels fresh popped in a pot with a couple of tablespoons of oil over a gas element, butter and salt to taste. Sit down in front of the tube and put on a DVR'd Center Ice game. Yum.

Doesn't help much though. I find it almost impossible to sleep well soon after a late game, replaying it in my mind as I toss and turn for an hour or so.

i usually try to pounce on the old lady. she usually smacks me and says "get off me you pervert".....but at least i try!!!
then i just snuggle up and try to steal kisses. and that usually gets me smacked.....AGAIN!!!
then i just curl up in a ball and go to sleep.

Sounds like rough and tumble is the solution either way - either you'll fall asleep of your own accord, or you'll get knocked out anyway.

I have the same trouble often - darn those late nights - I toss and turn for an hour before I sleep. I don't have a hi-fi with a sleep function near my bed, so I listen to my ipod for a little while.

Usually I'll be tired enough to fall asleep, unless I've had a stressful day/bad night with hockey, in which case I'll start stressing or replaying events, whichever's appropriate....unfortunately because I'm so geared up I can't help thinking of things like this cos my minds so active and nothing else to do/think about.

Green tea. I like the green tea with lemongrass (Um, i think its lemongrass. it has a lemony flavor they sell at starbucks) Knocks me out. If you don't like hot tea, try it iced but don't use too much sugar or else it defeats the purpose- for me, at least. Nice long hot shower helps as well.

I don't drink anything with alcohol after a game, I have enough problems staying hydrated without throwing alcohol in the mix.
