Nashville defense trade imminent

Shea Weber is currently on the IR, but has resumed practicing and could be back by Sunday.

In the the time he's been injured, Ville Koistinen has emerged as a fantastic defenseman at both ends of the ice, and cemented a spot in the top 4 as well as on the power play opposite Zidlicky.

At the same time, Kevin Klein has finally been given the opportunity to shine, and has been outstanding...even forcing Ryan Suter to be healthy scratched for a couple of games after some poor efforts.

Pete Weber, Nashville's PBP man, was on the radio this morning discussing the situation, and feels that with 8 defensemen on the roster...none of which can freely go to the AHL and definitely none of which belongs there...that David Poile is going to start taking phone calls in regard to this excess.

Our main need are scoring\playmaking wingers. As the team has gotten healthy, they've won 4 of 5 and 6 of 8 to get back to playoff contention, so scoring boost would be a big plus.

NOT Available are Shea Weber and Dan Hamhuis, so leave them out of your proposal. Greg Zanon is unlikely as well, given his worth to the team and the fact that he's once again in the top 5 in blocked shots. It would take an "overpayment.

Available..but likely going to be expensive in trade is Ryan Suter. He's had a terrific year, and when I said he's "struggled" recently, I think it's mostly rust and al ittle bit of lingering pain from his previous leg injury.

Everyone else...make a proposal for. Remember that we have two first round picks, if you want to turn this into a blockbuster.

Greg DeVries
Marek Zidlicky
Kevin Klein
Ville Koistinen

Given your analysis, I would only be interested in Suter. But I'm not sure the Sabres would be able to surrender the sort of young forwards you're looking for.

Would Cammalleri from LA interest the Preds at all?
Camm for Suter + or - from both sides?

Or Nagy for Klein+3rd?

Montreal could certainly use Suter. Is he used on your bottom pairing or second pairing?

If you guys need scoring how about some finishing?

Latendresse+2nd for Suter?

Or Ryder+D'agostini+Halak for Suter.

You guys yourself a very good back up for Mason and potential number 1. A potential top 6 winger, natural goalscorer, and Ryder who's finally getting his scoring touch back.

I have to imagine that if this is indeed true, the Pens are going to be one of the interested parties in this.

Both those deals are intriguing...but is Camm injured as often as it seems? If he's healthier than I'm recalling, I think that could be a slam-dunk deal for both teams.

For reference: if the season ended today and the Kings won the lottery, those 1st round picks would be at #5 [Florida's] and #11 [Nashville's].

Carolina would likely have interest in Marek Zidlicky if the price was right. Carolina doesn't have a whole lot of scoring wingers that are healthy right now but if the trade was going to go down it would likely be for a player like Andrew Ladd from this end. No idea if that falls into the plans for Nashville but he is the player from our side that makes the most sense.

How about Marian Hossa? We need good Dman and can offer one of the best RW in the business.

I'm thinking about Suter, Florida's 1st in 2008 & future considerations.

That's the sort of deal I could see new ownershp making to make a splash...but I think it would have to be the sort of deal the Preds made with the Flyers, in which they were given a day or two to talk to Hossa's agent before the trade to attempt to re-sign him. Otherwise, that package puts the price we paid for Forsberg to shame.

Would Tambellini, Hunter, and a pick get the Islanders anywhere close to Suter?

Camm is banged up at the moment(ribs), doesn't appear serious and he could be back in about a week. He isn't injury prone, but he gets nicked up from time to time. Good move for both teams.

The Isles would offer Tambellini straight up for either Klein or Koistinen.

Flyers would definitely be interested in Suter or Klein.

What would you ask? Maybe a package around Umberger and one of the two, whichever has less value?

I think that we trade either Klein or Suter.

Suter would obviously be involved in a bigger trade for an improvement for our forward core.

Klein would be a smaller deal where we would likely pickup a draft pick or prospect.

While I'd love for Poile to package Suter and get an improvement up front, I'm going to guess he goes the easy route and trades Klein in a smaller, more conservative deal (aka a Poile deal).

Our team needs a shakeup and needs another top 6 winger to get Fiddler out of the top 6. However, I'm guessing Poile is still waiting to see what happens with Sullivan (never going to play again imo).

Umberger has been awesome this year - he should have way more assists than he does, I'm only hesitant because he's one of the few playmakers we have on the wing. The rest of our forwards outside of Briere and Richards are more or less scoring types.

Carter, Lupul, Hartnell, Knuble, Upshall, etc.

I'd love to add to a Carter type and go for Weber, but that's probably me dreaming :-)

It was mentioned last year at a Breakfast with the GM that Dean Lombardi loves what Nashville has on defense and the Kings need to add another good young defenseman to their core other than Jack Johnson.

Suter would be a pipe dream, but I would imagine that if Suter could be had for Frolov or Cammalleri, that would be ideal for both sides. Both Frolov and Cammalleri have nice cap hits and Suter would be a fantastic compliment to JJ.

In a lesser deal, they would be able to go after Klein or Koistien and could give up someone like Nagy and a pick to get it there.

Nashville and LA seem like they could be good trading partners.

What would it take from Philly to get Bonk and Suter? Or is that out of the question?
