AHL and 2-way contracts

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere but I saw Buffaloed post an article on the AHL board concerning current NHL players (with 2 way contracts) and whether or not they could be sent down to the AHL next season should there be a lockout.

http://www.hfboards.com/showpost.php...11&postcount=1

Basically if the 50 game limit comes into effect, this effectively eliminates Hemsky (59 games in 02-03, 71 games in 03-04), Alexei Semenov (46 games in 02-03, 46 games in 03-04), Jarrett Stoll (4 games in 02-03, 68 games in 03-04), and Bergeron (5 games in 02-03, 54 games in 03-04).

That eliminates pretty much everyone. But at least our AHL club has a few less problems in terms of overstaffing next season... This is all still tentative however.

But am I misreading, or does that say 50 or more games THIS season? That lets Semenov go down, at least.

Debatable. In that respect, I believe Buffaloed was just mentioned Derek Roy in particular as he had no prior experience in the NHL before this year. The quote from the article just mentions "Roy was held out of the lineup in Montreal to prevent him from playing his 50th NHL game..."

From that at least, I would assume 50th NHL game would mean total and not for one season. But as it stands, nothing is set in stone.

Semenov would have to be signed to a 2-way contract as his contract expires on July 1.
