USA World Cup Rosters

Well, the regular season is over. Who do you think is going to be on the USA World Cup roster? What kind of lineup do you all expect?

Leopold shoudl definitely be on it. Time to put some young blood on the team.

If I was an American I would worried about the lack of good young players coming out of the U.S. All the good Americans players(Roenick, Hull*, Amonte, Leetch, Tkachuk) are reaching retirement in the next few years.

Parise? Stuart? Leopold? Legwand? Gomez? Martin? Montoya? Dustin Brown? O'Sullivan? The future of American hockey is bright indeed.

While I do agree with the notion that we had a generation gap, American hockey looks bright, as long as some prospects pan out.

True, there will be a bit of a gap, but the US just won the WJC and has faired well at other junior tournaments.

Names like Ryan Suter, Rick DiPietro, Rob Schremp, Dustin Brown, Zach Parise, Mark Stuart will be the next generation of US Players.

With that 22-and-under rule being abolished, that opens up two more spots on the team. DiPietro deserves to be there regardless. Are the rosters are still going to be 26 players?

Goalies (3): Rick DiPietro, Robert Esche, John Grahame

Defensemen (8): Bryan Berard, Chris Chelios, Derian Hatcher, Ken Klee, Brian Leetch, Paul Mara, Brian Rafalski, Mathieu Schneider

Forwards (15): Tony Amonte, Erik Cole, Craig Conroy, Chris Drury, Scott Gomez, Bill Guerin, Brett Hull, Steve Konowalchuk, John LeClair, Mike Modano, Jeremy Roenick, Brian Rolston, Keith Tkachuk, Doug Weight, Mike York

- - - - -

Tkachuk-Modano-Guerin
LeClair-Weight-Hull
Roenick-Gomez-Amonte
Drury-Rolston-York

Hatcher-Leetch
Rafalski-Schneider
Berard-Chelios

Esche
DiPietro

Scratches: Cole, Conroy, Grahame, Klee, Konowalchuk, Mara

Looks good to me, although I might find a spot for Legwand. World Championships roster looks pretty good as well.

I agree. He's played very well the last quarter of the season and would look good with a guy like Scott Gomez.

Yeah, it really just depends I guess. I'd say the final three spots for forwards are up for grabs, between a lot of guys like Blake, Parrish, Drury, Legwand, Rolston, and so on.

Agreed. Any of those guys would be fine by me. They're all pretty similar in the sense they're all fast, skilled, and play a strong two-way game. BTW, what are your thoughts on the World Championships team? I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

Definitely. Hopefully more American players will be taking it seriously. For some of the "bubble" guys, it's a really great opportunity to showcase for the world cup, guys like Mara, Miller, Dunham, and so on. I'm interested in seeing who will be added after the first round. One of Philadelphia or New Jersey will be eliminated, and each is stocked with American players.

It's going to be interesting to see if Arnason plays for the U.S. if he's asked.
