straka's presence is more crucial

to the team's success than Avery's.
Fact or fiction?

Straka makes Jagr go. Getting Jagr going gets the team going, & Avery maintains the edge during the lulls.

Couldn't have been said better. You need both, at least if you still have Jagr on the team you need both. Maybe when Jagr's gone Straka won't be as necessary but Avery seems to make the whole team play with an edge. Watching the NYR with Avery in the line-up is like watching a complete different team.

For a while, Jagr was NOT going, even with Straka in the lineup.

So I dont think thats a problem.

I just see an obvious difference in Jagr with Strak in the lineup. For me he is the most underrated Ranger and has been for a while.
Will miss him.....if Jagr goes I think he will retire, said inasmuch in a interview..

To me they're both equally important. Martin not only helps get Jagr going but game in and game out is just about the hardest working forward we have and a very conscientious player at both ends of the ice.

As for Avery--he gets the team and the crowd into games--and he gives our team a physical and sometimes psycological edge that is just not there if he's not in the lineup. That's an intangible that just cannot be dismissed.

Avery's value to this team is slowly decreasing, even the last few games he was playing he wasn't playing like Avery, he was just playing like a crappy third liner. Maybe that's because of the 12/30 incident with his hand, but hey...

Point is, Avery needs to stop getting injured, and he needs to bring back the intensity that he had when he got traded here 11 months ago.

As for Straka.. he is a crucial part of the team, he gets the top line going and gets whatever bum Renney decides to put there to replace him off. If your first line goes, your worse lines follow... so yes, I believe, regardless of the record with Avery in the lineup vs Straka in the lineup, that Straka brings a lot more things to this team that can help us win.

The way that avery plays...he can easily be injured. He throws himself into everyone and everything..this energy and aggressiveness makes him injury prone and I can see him missing more time next season. maybe something to think about in re-signing him

Didn't he get slashed? How is that his fault? And Chris Neils check? That's because of the style he plays? What makes him "injury prone" is he pisses people off and makes them want to hurt him. Which is also his strength. Getting teams to focus on Avery instead of the game and their system. By your logic, Ryan Hollweg, or even Petr Prucha for that matter should both be on LT-IRs but both have been fine all season. Yeah, try again buddy!

I can't say fact or fiction. We'd be (are) in big trouble without either.

Straka has been getting hurt too. The fact is the team needs them both but if push comes to shove I'd go with the younger more aggressive player who is more likely to be around a couple years down the road.

It's tough to tell this season...

because both have been hurt this season and their results have been kind of inconsistent. For all the talk about how good Avery's played he has 2 goals (one at even strength) in 21 games while averaging nearly 17 minutes per night. Yeah he has some assists, but am I to believe he's a playmaker all of the sudden? Straka has had his struggles too, but has been better of late (he had some serious scoring droughts in the first quarter of the season). Given all that, I'd have to go with Straka, if I had to answer the question.

IMO yes.

Straka has been a GOOD Ranger, and I will miss him when he is finally done. He's a ****ing warrior and will do anything to get out on the ice and get us a win.
