Lindy Ruff calls for Shanny suspension

It's tough to disagree here.. Shanny's hit on Mcarthur into the goal post with 9 seconds left was really nasty, and Shanny also has had delivered pretty dangerous cross checks several times in recent memory..

Quote:
“There should probably be a suspension on that last play,” Ruff said. “The league has to look at that. That was a definite attempt to hurt somebody.

“It was careless, reckless. You can’t have that happen. He could have a broken neck, a broken shoulder, a broken back. He could have a number of things. If he isn’t seriously hurt, he’s lucky.”

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets one game, I turned and told my dad right after that hit that same exact thing.

Was a sign of desperation because Shanny wanted no chance of losing, but it's not called for really. It's not THAT bad but it could of been THAT bad.

i dont think it warrants a suspension. it didn't look like shanny was trying to hurt him, more so just knock him away from the crease

For the Rangers sake, a mandatory sit down might be the best thing for Shanny.

i dont think its worthy of a suspension, with that said, if he got 1 game, i wouldnt whine, its an acceptable amount of games considering the danger of the play.

Didn't see it, but from what I heard in regards to the incident, I immediately thought that a suspension could be coming in the future. But before I start ranting about something I haven't seen, I'll try to keep my nose out of this until I see what happened.

(Go figure. I just missed it on SportsCenter. Turned and what do I see? Not enough to make a full-blown decision.)

Kind of a dumb play by Shanahan, but ehh...I don't know if it warrants a suspension. I was very surprised there wasn't a penalty called at the time though..maybe if there was, I would agree more for a suspension.

I think he should be suspended for the hit. He should take a day off anyways.

Shanahan said the play was a simple miscue and held no devious intentions.

"It was harder than I would've wanted," Shanahan told the Associated Press. "It certainly warranted a penalty. I'm glad the guy didn't get hurt.
"I wanted to knock him down into the net, not into the post."
Says Shanny

Should have been a minor or major (since it was checking/crosschecking from behind into a goalpost).....but since the league apparently takes the injury into consideration....he shouldnt get any sort of suspension since the guy he hit is fine. But if he gets a game..I won't be suprised and to be frank...its probably warranted.

No news is good news? He got up under his own power and didn't seem to hit his head anywhere, so he should be ok.

What I meant in the context is that he should take off a day anyways in the consideration that he's not in 100% right now. Having a suspension will be a boon because you know how tough Shanny is, he'll play hockey under extraordinary circumstances.

Ontop of it he said "I meant to hit him in the net". Well there you go, that's his admission. Whenever you check a guy and mean him to hit the net, there's always that risk of hitting the post (which doesn't give much way as the boards do, there's no increase in impact time=impulse=Favg *t).

Hockey is physics! It's helping me to review for the MCAT. I love it when hockey commentators say "Avery and Tucker cancel each other out"

One can't forget about the conservation of momentum in hockey too (A lot of players exploit physical laws). Not to mention, decreased amount of static and kinetic friction. That's why I love hockey so much, it's suits the science. Ahh let's not forget the materials science of plexiglass. OMG It's 3:00 a.m. and I'm still not done studying! Ahhhh!

Not the smartest move by Shanny, not suspension worthy though.

Definitely worthy of a penalty but that's about it IMO. Just gotta use better discretion in a situation like that, though I'm sure he wasn't intending to hit him into the post (as he made mention of in his quote).

It's an hour later, and I watched the quick clip of the hit.

It doesn't look suspension worthy to me, but if (for some reason) it warrants one, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I don't think a suspension would be that long to begin with -- it would be one to two games, more like one -- so it's not that big of a deal there.

Whatever happens, happens.

I don't know... I don't see a suspension. To me, he just took a guy down who was driving to the net with 10 seconds left. Taking a guy out of position to score... A deliberate attempt to injure? I doubt his idea was to have the guy hit the post, and hurt himself. I really don't think so. It's a lot different than crushing a guy from behind or hitting someone with a stick. He was hit into the post, but was Shanny trying to hurt him? You can't suspend every play that could result in an injury.
