Make your trade deadline proposals here

It's apparent we don't have the horses this year ... this team couldn't score on there Girl Friends, Wives or Hookers

players who are not available under any circumstances: Legwand, Dumont, Arnott, Weber, Radulov, Hamhuis, Zidlicky (yuck) & Mason

For the most part I agree with your last sentence. However, NHL trade history shows that everybody has a price, even the players you list as being "not available under any circumstances". If the offer is good enough each and every GM has a responsibility to at least consider whatever is sent their way.

Why do you include Arnott as being unavailable? I thought he was an unrestricted free agent. Does he have an NTC or NMC?

Zidlicky has a NTC/NMC too that he would have to waive as well.

No. He's in the second year of a 5 year\4.5 per deal with a NTC.

why trade away guys?

i'm an outsider. i look at your team and i think you have some great pieces- great building blocks-

for me, if anything, I'd be buying at the deadline, i mean, i'm sure there are guys you could bare to part with- but realistically, i don't think you are many pieces away from being a playoff competetor.

i'm not saying buy to scrape into the playoffs- i'm saying buy now for next years team- or hit the UFA market

but I don't think you should sell and decent building blocks-

flannelman - the issue IMHO is that we have too many good defensemen with several more just on the verge and not enough scoring. So, the best move is to trade a dman for some scoring even if it's potential scoring.

I also think we need to get larger all around ... last nights game just proved it to me 100 times over ... 1 ****in' goal on about 35 perimeter shots shows me we're midget powered ... and we need to get some tough sob's (with skill) to help make some space for our skilled players ... wow we actually had one last year

I basically agree we need maybe two more Arnott size players (Pavelski?) that can play wing or center with a scoring touch.

Essentially what ever other team wants, except we have the D corps assets to actually make a deal, IMHO, not just be a wanna be player. We don't really need picks or two yrs away prospects, we need impact players now, next season at the latest, to really make some noise in the post-season.

or maybe a Steve Bernier 3rd on the Sharks with 11 goals & loves to freaking hit (leads the team with 95) ... (while our big hitter *Scott Nichol - leads team with 63* loves to hit flies*)

This is the first indication I've seen from Poile that the Preds would like to re-sign Dumont. The fact that Arnott is making a vocal push for it probably works well in favor, also.

Well, looking at the date this tread was posted and the fact that you're 6-2-2 over the past 10.... might we conclude that your opinions on being sellers - and to what extent - have changed somewhat ?

In any case - I would like to know what Preds-Nation would want from Pens for:

1: Martin Erat

2: Martin Erat and Kevin Klein/or Koistinen

Reasoning from our end; both should be able to fit needs with us without being burn down the farm trades while being available to sign on afterwards. Would mean that we'd get a scoring upgrade on Colby for Sid's wing, and Klein/Koistinen would add depth for our D/instantly rival/beat out Scuderi and Orpiks in particular.
Reasoning as to why Nasville might be interested... both are RFA's, your play-off prospects aren't very bright even if you could surely get in, and given your salary constraints (I think) you have a job with signing bigger priorities already.

Jordan Staal.

I love the reasoning above:
Reason for PIT: They get a first liner winger to play with Sid, and an up-and-coming young dman.
Reason for NSH: They playoff prospects are very bright.

Even if there's certainly a risk of me misunderstanding that curious sentence, it would appear as if you're being conveniently simplistic to ridicule my post .

I touched on Nashville's financial problems as well (as I understand it your management isn't really looking to spend to the cap anytime soon, correct?), and signing Weber and Suter (plus one of Klein or Koistinen) AND Erat could become an issue after giving Dumont his raise and Legwand's improved contract kicking in next year. At least that is how I understood the situation from reading past trade topics on this forum.

As for Staal. Not a chance, but you knew that of course.

Just curious, but what do you think Erat and Klein would cost? Its not like we are talking about chopped liver. Erat is an extremely talented and hard-working winger. He is a legitimate top 6 winger, and if the Legwand line had a healthy cast (heck, even Tootoo was good enough for that trio to cruise) his point total would be much higher.

As for Klein, he probably could be had at significantly less cost, but this doesn't mean he is free. When you combine the two together, you are getting a very expensive cast of players. Staal isn't as far off as you think.

Well, I asked because I think the evaluation is kinda tough, and I am not as well versed in what you would need as you guys, obviously. Moreover, I also asked in a thread that was initiated looking like a fire-sale. If you're now gunning for the play-offs in honest, then that changes things rather substantially because then I cannot see you dealing Erat when you're lacking scorers already. Then - maybe you'd rather look to dealing Suter instead in order to boost your fire-power? After all - from what I can read elsewhere you do not expect to be able to sign all your RFA's, so logic says there's a limit to the salary you can take back too.

Personally I do think Staal is pretty far off calue wise, what with him getting 29 goals and leading the NHL in shorties as an 18 year old 2nd overall pick. Erat hasn't shown anyway near that potential and Klein you never play. But I also realise that the financial situation I am banking on to make a trade possible is not enough to make this free, as they're both good players .

So, if I go along with the initial stand of this topic - ie. you're selling rather than buying - then I'd say your pick of Colby Armstrong (who is signed through next season) or Erik Christensen plus a quality prospect (we could talk Esposito) plus a 2nd/3rd draftpick.

Again - if financial constraints are not an issue forcing you to think in that kind of asset management... this is pretty much moot to begin with. If you're gunning for a shot at a play-off run, you have no reason to go for any of this. I was just wondering where you stood .

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Shane Doan. I know Phoenix is in the hunt, he is a team leader, etc...but I would like for it to happen...

Poile has stated repeatedly that he can and will sign all RFA's. He hadn't mentioned signing Dumont so that was a surprise but I don't think it changes plans. I don't think the Preds are in fire sale mode from financial constraints at all and I think most Pred fans and, more importantly, Poile would say the team has a very solid chance of getting into the playoffs this year. Combine that with the shortage of 1 top six forward and I think there is little to no chance that Erat is moved. On defense, the Preds could move some talent and justify it. On offense, it looks like we are giving up and I dont think they can/will go that path.

Thus, any trades almost certainly involve defense and will have the appearance of helping immediately in a push for the playoffs. Candidates for trade most likely would include: Zids, Suter, Klein and Koistenen.

In terms of value, Erat and Klien for Staal is short but not by a huge amount. If the Pens decide the team could ditch a super talented guy to upgrade elsewhere, then I would think defense would be more of a priority. I would think Staal for Suter might be more in keeping with the needs of the teams.

Trotz said in the paper the other day that he thinks Klein will be a Predator for a very long time. Poile also said that he intends to sign all our RFAs in the summer, but I wouldn't totally hold him to that. But, that essentially eliminates Erat, Klein, and Suter. All thats left is an overpaid (with a NTC) Zidlicky and Koistinen. I don't know what we'll do. Is nothing even an option?
