A sign of hockey's future?

Hockey is one of the world's fastest-growing participatory sports, and there has been a dramatic increase in female participation said Paul Fireman, chairman and chief executive officer of Canton-based Reebok.
Not for nothin', but hockey could use a good marketing shot in the arm.

are you suggesting a female league(WNHL?), or integration?

the manon rheaume thing didn't work out well, though it did get more girls into hockey. im not sure how many stayed when she was dwindling in the ihl...

I can just see the new penalty introduced: 2 minutes for boob-grabbing.

Or 2 minutes for putting make-up when you're on the bench instead of paying attention to the game!

I think he means to suggest that a professional women's hockey league may be on the horizon. Women would not be able to compete in the NHL. Some women are certainly better than some men, but the most athletic men will always be stronger and faster than the most athletic women. It just wouldn't be an even playing field.

would a womens pro league fly in canada?
i really doubt it'd fly here. especially with the recent closure of the WUSA soccer league.

Actually, I meant that if Reebok buys these companies, the SPORT will benefit from their marketing might. Reebok might actually amke a guy like Thornton visibile in Boston.
