When you think about it, those three look to be pretty sick selections.
Very good draft IMO but this is a great draft : Detroit check out 89's picks http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr000034.html

I still can't understand lidstrom was selected 53th and federov 74th.

With Timmins, I think Montreal will be able to do the same one day

People have a ton of problems with Latendresse and all of them I find to be ridiculous.

"He isn't very fast"
- He doesn't have to be to be successful.

"He is supposed to be a power forward and he doesn't monster check everyone"
- How many nights do you see Todd Bertuzzi totally everyone? It's usually one or two highlight checks and thats it.

"He hasn't been consistent"
- Hard to be when you are constantly juggled or playing third line shut down hockey.

"He gets a break because of the hype"
- Not true at all. Lats has been strong, not the best he can be, but solid. He's only going to get better.

To me, he is our John Leclair. We got rid of Leclair right when he was breaking out, and I think people need to realize that. We got on our hands a big power forward with soft hands. We need to keep him at all costs.

Agreed. Although I wouldn't say he's our John LeClair because we got screwed in that deal. We're not getting screwed here.

We don't get screwed if we keep him

Indeed, he was thrust into Perezhogins old role, and remember, we all thought Perezhogin would dominate on a top line. Once Latendresse can hit the top lines, or we get a 3rd line thats more compareable to a second line, I bet we'll see his numbers increase. We've seen great things when he's played with Koivu.

We have to keep him? Sure. But saying that his downfalls are not important is not true and doesn't mean we want him out. Again, there's a difference between hoping a player improve and wanting to trade him 'cause he's not perfect.

He needs to be faster. And if it wasn't that important, he wouldn't take powerskating lessons, which he did and will do again this year. Will he ever be lightining fast, of course not but that's not what we're talking him. He's not only slow but he has a strange stride to go with that. I believe his mechanic needs to have some work done. Clearly, this is the greatest example that the way he skates makes him OK in the first 25 second of his shift, but makes him slower the last 25 seconds of it. And again, what's wrong with having something to work on.

I agree with you for all the other points. He needs experience and playing time to work on all these other things. Mostly, being more opportunistic. Clearly, the kid is not at ease with the body he has. He's definately not mean, has all the trouble in the world to look in an opponent's eye when he's battling with him. So personnally, I don't expect anymore to see him delivering thunderous checks, it's not his game. But at the very least, and it will come with experience and playing time, I expect his big body to be useful so as to protect the puck better, to be able to receive punishing hits without falling, being strong and big in front of the net, and score the garbage goals he loves to score.

But all those, again, will come with time. But skating will come with practice and lessons.

He has shown good things so far, but we'll see.
Give it a break! The kid's only 20...

Some develop more quickly than others and some systems develop players more quickly than other systems...
