Brad Stuart - signed on for 1 year in LA hoping to play his way to a better long-term UFA contract. A playoff run in Montreal may motivate him to achieve his best potential.

Adam Foote - as with Stuart I think he can turn it up to contribute on a second pairing for a playoff run. He will be looking for a final contract before next season as well.

Jaroslav Modry - not spectacular but steady (and cheap) LA UFA.

Barrett Jackman - former rookie of the year, having a very off-season after a great one last year. Probably could be had cheap.

Of note, I do not have Rob Blake on here because he is too injury prone and expensive.
Barret Jackman is a good player but he's much like Blake: very injury prone. Has had all sorts of body injuries already in his career and lately, he's had the dreaded concussion episodes. That doesn't bode too well despite his young age.

His style is demanding physically. I like him and would take a chance on him but not at all costs.

I don't know if that would be considered from the other side, but I think that would be a great trade for the Habs. Well worth the risk, IMO!

I wouldn't even call it a risk personally, it would be buying a buck for 40 cents. Ryder is bringing close to nothing right now while Jackman could provide a good partner for Hamrilk barring injuries.

fun fact...Doan and Carey Price are cousins.
I question if Tony Marinaro realizes that the Coyotes are currently in a playoff spot, and are not battling with the LA Kings....

Really why would they give up their captain, and top RW right now.

I've been a Doan fan for a few years now, but I doubt the Coyotes would trade him.

And for just those reasons St. Louis would have nothing of it.

Can't disagree with that, man.

I guess I was bracing myself in case a superfan of Ryder had shown up and been offended by the notion he might be traded for the lowly Jackman

he did mention it.
He said IF the Coyotes were to drop out of the race, he should be atop our list. Other then that he is not touchable.

Here are some of your (HAB fans) recent choices...:

Adam Foote (I would love for Mr.Gainey to get him, we'd have 3 tough RIGHTIE D-Men in Komisarek, veteran warrior Foote, and O'Byrne...I wonder what would we have to give up for Foote? And...he's good for what? another 2-3 seasons + he's under contract, not bad at all...)
Shane Doan (he would be a GREAT acquisition, but...hefty price)
Rob Blake (wouldn't mind Blake at all, but at what price?)
Holik and Federov (these are realistic choices, the price might not be that bad?)
Brind'Amour (would carolina let him go, and...to us? hefty price? he would be awesome in a HAB jersey)
Stoll (not sure about this one, but...maybe realistic?)
D'Agostini (some want to see him play NOW with Koivu and Higgins...)
Jackman (I only know that he is tough/gritty...can't comment...is he a rightie/leftie? these days is he a solid #4 or #5?, injury prone?)
Zidlicky (look below at Modry for same/similar comments, but I could be absolutely wrong about Zidlick...)
Modry (I've always liked him for my hockey pools, not sure if he is what we're looking for...since we have talented/skilled Streit, we might/should be looking for more toughness/grit on D, imo)
Stuart (realistic choice, but wouldn't a rightie be on Gainey's list?)
Ryder (some are saying we should find a winger to replace him...?)
