Forsberg

Reports are that Forsberg is close to making a decision, and is open to signing anywhere. Obviously he probably has his preferences, but I would have to think that we would be on that list, even with his buddy Kariya gone. Remember the story that before the ownership crisis\his decision to wait, he was actually quoted on how much he liked the city and wouldn't mind playing for us again.

Turn around to a new ownership group who is looking to make a statement--who knows the effect that the Forsberg trade had on ticket sales last season, not to mention merchandise, national publicity, etc...

If we could get Forsberg for the rest of this year and next...do we do it? If it takes offering 1 million more than the next highest offer...I think we have to do it, health in question or not. We had our problems in the playoffs last year...he wasn't one of them. It was more the fact that he was dishing to, at times, Vernon Fiddler that hurt us.

Anyway, just food for thought

I'd make a move for him for sure, but I can't see Poile being that bold and I cannot see Forsberg wanting to come back here at all. He wants to win a cup. While we are "still in it", I don't think we would be that attractive to someone like himself.

I think he will end up in Detroit honestly.

For sure. Forsberg was one of the few players actually playing out there. Its a shame that we picked up so many injuries and went sputtering into the playoffs. Because I still think we could have done some damage last year. But on topic, Forsberg was amazing for us in the playoffs.

Maybe he's waiting for Forsberg to call him first ala Dumont, Arnott, Kariya, etc.

if you have a chance to get Forsberg, you get Forsberg.

Even at 60% healthy he is better than anyone we have.

I agree. I think if he'd come here Poile would make it happen. Problem is if Forsberg wants a chance to WIN the cup, he doesn't come here. (I think we make the playoffs but I think we're a longshot for the cup even with Forsberg.)

Predators show interest in Forsberg
Quote:
Peter Forsberg said Thursday he would like to return to the NHL, and Predators General Manager David Poile confirmed he had been in touch with Forsberg's agent over the last couple of days.

The 34-year-old Forsberg has been sidelined with a foot and ankle injury since finishing last season with Nashville. He had practiced with his hometown team of Modo in Sweden, but announced he would not be playing for that team.

Nashville acquired Forsberg from Philadelphia last season at the trade deadline for a player, a prospect and two draft picks. Forsberg became a free agent at the end of last season, ending his ties to the Predators.

"I told him we would be interested," Poile said. "But there was no indication from his agent as to where he wanted to play or who he wanted to play for. He didn't give a definitive timetable of when he would do it, nor did he say he was ready to play.

Take it with a grain of salt, but that would be a major coup for Poile, Freeman & Co.

how in the world do you figure? mason and ellis have been fantastic, for the most part. each has a bad night every now and then, but so does every goalie.

Seriously? Taking away the last 10 games or so, we have had the worst goaltending in our history. Ellis started out with a bang, but has fallen back to earth.

I hold out hope that Mason can continue to regain form, but I pretty much have to. No other options out there right now or in the near future.

Forsberg-- glad that Poile actually picked up the phone and called someone.

I have little doubt that if we had Vokoun, we'd have atleast more wins right now.

I would love to have Forsberg back. I just don't think he will come back here unless he really really likes what he sees and we keep moving up. And even then I think it's a long shot.

And it was almost one year ago that he became a Predator (Feb. 15).

He's reportedly looking for a deal that covers next year, as well.

I think we'd be one of the teams with the cap space and willingness to do it.

So much for this dream. Poile said at the town hall meeting that they talked to Forsberg's agent, made a formal offer...and were assured that Forsberg loved his time in Nashville, thinks we have a good team...but declined our offer...which was the highest we would make.
