Would a baseball fans parents get paid 1.2 mil for taking a ball off the noggin?

Their daughter was killed... $1,200,000 means nothing when you lose a child.

Then you have to take out costs of trial, attorneys fees... etc. They may take home 600K, and do so over a 20 year period as part of an annuity.

Terrible situation all around.

No actually the NHL payed the lawyers and all fees also as per the settlement. It came to about 580 K more

Thank you.

Good to see one who doesn't trivialize the sanctity of life.

What a totally inappropriate and classless way to raise the issue of the settlement. The family received compensation for the death of their daughter that was allowed to happen through what the NHL has accepted some degree of responsibility for.

The appropriate reactions are sympathy for the family, respect for the NHL in doing the right thing, and to note that any rink in any league that does not protect its fans by using nets appropriately placed is at risk of at least this amount of damage.

Think before you post.

That's BS. I am sorry the little girl died but this is what is wrong with the westen world...everyone is so eager to sue someone. They knew they were going to hockey game and possibly a puck could enter the crowd.

while blunt, i agree on this premise. this money thing is getting rediculous, but i won't go into it...

the nets were rediculous too, and all the media spinning it etc.. how many years until this happened? i love how something HAS to happen before actions are taken

I agree that people are too eager to sue someone but it doesn't apply here. Nobody goes to a hockey game "knowing" that they could possibly die from being hit by a stray puck.

Read the back of any ticket and you'll see it in more or less those same words.
