Robert, can you or somebody else enlighten me? I keep seeing references to "games in hand" like that means automatic points. Doesn't it just mean that the team has a chance to pick up points? At the end of the day, everybody plays 82 games. What am I missing?
You aren't missing anything, Rick. And you deserved a simple (and polite) answer. In the last analysis of course, each team plays an equal number of games. The simple problem is, when team A has already played all of their games, and other teams have not, team A is not capable of adding additional points, while the others are. And in a very close race for a playoff spot, it is likely that at least some of the teams who still have games to play are going to pick up points after team A no longer has that opportunity. (And therefore edge team A out).
I don't have the energy to comb through this thread yet.
Just one question: is MFRONE still alive? As I was watching the game last night, safely away from my computer, I just imagined that poor guy's head exploding at some point (probably about 15 minutes into the first)
LOL. He has been here, but kinda quiet and very well behaved.
Views differ on this, but I've always believed part of Brule's problem was going to be playing time. To me, now's the time to build for the future. I'd keep Brule and Brassard on the same line and put Zherdev with them--he seems to be the one guy on the team that does well regardless of who is on his line. Maybe giving them some time with Z can build their confidence going into next season. Let Hitch continue the Modin/Nash experiment with Peca on the line--with Fedorov out, he's the most steady center we have.
The benefit of slipping out of playoff contention is that maybe, just maybe, Hitch can stop constantly changing the lines and instead try some extended experimentation preparing for next season.
. Capn, this roster was against Detroit . But if I would build for the future, I could up Voráček from QMJHL. Besides I think Bru is better center than wing. I would try to join Bru and Voráćek in one line. I think it could be very interesting. Jakub is very good playmaker (like Brass that`s why I don`t get in one line) and Bru is type like Mike Peca but much better.
My first two lines in this case:
Nash - Brulé - Voráček
Modin - Brassard - Žerdev
Nash - Brassard - Žerdev
Modin - Brulé - Voráček
And it`s very important to get the faith for our young players, don`t get sit on the bench for mistake.
