AJC: 5 Teams seeking Hossa

The Atlanta Journal Constitution's NHL beat report has an article today saying Thrashers GM Don Waddell is headed to the GM's Meeting in Florida "and leaving his gold clubs behind" presumably to focus on trade talks.

He lists 5 teams as being suitor for Hossa. All in the west other than Montreal which has been scouting Atlanta and vice versa.

1. Detroit
2. Montreal
3. Anaheim
4. Dallas
5. San Jose

I read somewhere that Hossa said that he wanted to go to a canadian team and not in the USA.

Burke also said he won't trade EDM 1st... so i doubt Anaheim and Atlanta have anything going...

Unless Burke is Bluffing and is going to package Schneider +

Atlanta could then flip Schneider elsewhere and get even more assets. A 3-way deal would make a LOT of sense here.

Curious to know how much they want and how much is too much from Holland's perspective. He'd be an excellent addition but at what cost?

Do you mean "golf clubs" or "gold card"? If he is leaving his golf clubs behind that would indicate he is looking to make deals...if he is leaving his gold card behind that would indicate he isn't going to do any buying...

Just having some fun....

DET: Filppula and Hudler as part of the deal

DAL: Jokinen, Fistric/ Grossman + ...

ANA: EDM's 1st?, Beachemin + ?....I really have no idea.

MTL: Something around the main pieces Higgins, Latendresse or around one of the Kostitsyn's.

SJS: A package around Bernier...maybe + Carle.

IMO any first round pick (or Atlanta's own) coming back to Atlanta would be used in an additional trade.

Hossa and Thorton would be an amazing combo. Not good news for the western conference thats for sure.

I was thinking along those lines. "Mr. Credibiltiy/Sandwich Lover" reports that Waddell is looking for a player, prospect, and a draft pick. The Sharks could offer two packages consisting of Bernier (player) and Wishart (prospect) or Setoguchi (prospect/player) and Carle (player). The snag is that they don't have a 2nd or 3rd in this year's draft so would they risk adding their 1st? They could always dangle their '09 1st though.

Or would Atlanta go for a Marleau and Wishart for Hossa deal (if San Jose makes a play to keep Hossa)?

They can add a $6m player without moving anyone from their roster if they wanted to.

I could see Atlanta being interested in Marleau as that gives them a player signed for the next two seasons who could hopefully regain his form playing alongside Kovalchuk. Would the Sharks trade their captain before a playoff push though?

Probably not but I would

Actually, I'd rather get rid of Ron Wilson. Those two just are not on the same page.

I'd love to see Hossa in a Canucks' jersey, but I doubt Nonis would be willing to spend the assets to acquire him and fork over the cash to re-sign him.

I doubt it... I think it would be more likely something like Carle + Pavelski + 1st in '09.

I'm thinking Filppula, this year's 1st round pick, a defense prospect (Kindl or Smith) and probably another early round pick. I'd love to see them throw in Samuelsson just to get rid of him.
