According to TSN, Ottawa to make an announcement

more than likely announcing that Martin has been let go and that Quennville has been hired.

Quenville may wait for the Avs-Sharks series. If the Avs lose, Granato could be toast and Quenville would prefer that jpb over any other according to reports.

Also at the moment Quenville is the head coach of Team Canada at the World Championships in Prague.

Joel Quenneville will not be making any decisions on next season until after he gets back from the World Championships in Prague.

If it was my call, the next thread would be “NYR call a press conference” to announce the hiring of Martin, hehehehe. I know this has been debated but I like his style. Someone in another thread said we shouldn’t put the carriage in front of the horses, and I agree. While Martin hasn’t been a stellar playoff coach, he’s still put a solid team on the ice. And, considering the Rangers of the past 7 years, I’d settle for team cohesion before I start thinking of playoffs and Stanley Cups. Let’s get a team together first, and then try to win something. I think Martin is the best option out there right now.

Disagree.

I think he's a good option, but I still like Maurice better than Q or Martin.

Just by looking at the "team identity" they fostered at their last jobs, and who got more out of less.

I think Q and Maritn would be massive improvements, but I think Maurice is best suited to mold the Rangers into the kind of team I want to see. Fast, tough as nails, always backing eachother up and a whole that's much better than the sum of its parts.

Maybe Sather can do something smart and Hire Maurice as the coach, Graves as one of the assistants oh and Mike Richter as the goalie coach, maybe Sather can try to make a deal with Oilers farm system to get the rights to Jeff Beukeboom so he can be our defensive coach. At least Beukeboom can teach the defense how to hit especially Tom Poit. :lol

Shadowdopes post shows just how clueless he is on hockey. Martin would be a hooooooorible coach for the Rangers. He could't do squat with a team with more talent then just about anybody. He also didn't do what he had to in order to get his team a real goalie. The coach has got to push the GM sometimes.

Biron is a guy they could have and should have gotten.

Now you could say Martin is the coach! How could he get a goalie! Trust me. He could. A real coach is going to get his GM to get him what he wants. Much like Hitchcock has done. With all that talent if Martin told his GM his goalie blew, get me Biron his GM would have gotten him Biron.

Put it this way, I wouldn’t be upset at all if either of them were hired (Quenville or Maurice), but as far as I’m concerned Martin would be my top choice. I’d go after him first.

Jacques Martin Fired!!!!

I posted this on the Trade Rumors board!!

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=81171

How long until he gets another job. I would love for him to be the Rangers coach. I look at what he did with Ottawa in his 9 years. Granted, he didn't win in the playoffs against the Leafs but he made Ottawa a respected hockey club!! I know he had the young guns but he instituted a system that works in today's NHL.

... so let's say that we do hire Q or Martin as our head coaches, who would we get to help them actually impliment a system as the assistants? Do we make Renney go back to that position? if so, what about McGill and all the hard work he's done?
