I've always supported Gainey as being a great GM. I'm really happy with what he's been doing over the past few years. My only criticism has been that he hasn't rebuilt aggressively enough to get the top picks required to get the superstars that are needed for a championship calibre team. We got a little lucky along the way with a lottery pick and getting 5th overall a few years ago but even there Gainey deserves huge praise because he took a lot of heat for selecting Price.

No GM is perfect but I've been happy with the job he's done. In Bob we trust.

His biggest accomplishment is the youth on the team and the hiring of Guy Carbonneau(which I know most people see as a major negative, not me). Sometimes his asset management can be subpar, Habs lost a first line center and a top 4 D for nothing, but he did bring in solid player like Gorges, Kovalev and Hamrlik. Hamrlik and Kovalev are half the reason the Habs are doing so well. I'll eat some crow then, but I'm not expecting half that much from most Carbo haters.

I love the fact that he decided to coach the team after firing Julien. He took the time to evaluate the players. He knew exactly wich players were good leaders to build around and who had to leave. What a clean-up job !

Great work by Bob. Man are we lucky to have him as GM of the habs !

Last year I believe the flu bug was enough to drop us 5-10 points and just out of the playoffs. The next few days will prove to be big for Gainey....if he makes the right trade it could mean a cup before it was expected...if he makes a bad trade it could mean we lose great young players.

His best qualities are his calm and poise. He has a long term, "don't panic" philosophy which has helped us.
With that said, let's not forget that Pleks, Higgins, Komi, and Kosty bros, who are the core of this team, were drafted by Andre Savard. Gainey's wisdom was mainly keeping them. I still think Gainey made a mistake by letting go a quality man like Andre Savard.

Overall, we cannot do otherwise than feel respect for the man and how he handles this franchise. I wish he had been GM instead of Houle back then. We'd be Detroit right now...

How do we feel about it now?
I never doubted him one minute! Not one stinking minute, yessiree bubba! Complete confidence in good ole, er...uh... Bob, is it?

Yeah, thats it: Burt.

imo we're contenders now, it doesn't matter who's name is on the back of the jersey but how much pride you have as a player and how much you honor your club.
I think it all comes down to whom has the most heart as a collective and not how many snipers or high profiled personnel you have on your roster. That Rangers game just shows me how much heart this club actually has when they want to show it.
