got the early lead and hung on for dear life. Well they did have a few chances but after the first i thnk that Detroit controled the flow for the most part.

I'll give Mikka the MVP with HM to Tanguay and the posts.

Very important tonight, but like our win in Dallas, it was a rather lucky one. Nevertheless at this time of the season I take the points, which give us the chance to take the division lead on Sunday, when we face the Wild.

Flames started red-hot and completely controlled Detroit in the first period, but after that we heavily relied on Kipper's shoulders, pads, glove, blocker and the post rather than continuing our great offensive play from the first. Detroit is the league's best team for some good reasons, but they shouldn't outplay and outshot us like they did in the second half of the game. We gave up way too many turnover and gave them too much space in our zone IMO.
Regarding Vandermeer's debut with the Flames, I was pleased with his effort. He logged about 20 minutes of ice-time and did a good job for most parts of the game, although I am somewhat concerned about his role with our team, cause almost every Flyers-fan noticed, that he is a solid 3rd-pairing defenseman, but shoudln't be used otherwise.

KIPPER!!! Finally my pool will benfit from a shutout!!!

Vandemeer I thought was pretty decent overall, especially being in a brand new system. He got burnt by Datsyuk a couple of times, but then again, which Flames d-man hasn't been this year. He was good and physical, and seemed to get a little more involved as the game went on.

Had you asked the question about ten minutes earlier, I would have done you that favour.

STAT form Flame broadcast - Detroit played the entire game with 5 D and only 2 had over 25 games of NHL experience. Ericsson was the very last player taken in his draft year.

Vandermere didn't look slow or out of place. The only problem was that he really went for the deke as was mentioned earlier.

A good physical game for the Flames. Ugly wins may well be the nature of this team but let's not forget, they just beat #1 and #2 teams in the league. They also won a first game back from a road trip, which is one of those times when they are at great risk for a loss. And that Detroit team may be on a road trip, but they had a good rest back in Detroit for the last few days.

Kipper shuts em out. They are tightening up defensively. Just at the right time.

Well it's about time. Way to go Kipper! Huge shutout tonight. Tanguay played great tonight as well. Great to get the two points and make the game on Sunday even more meaningful.

Not a typical Flames game, really strong 1st period then looked bad in the third. I wasn't as impressed with them as some of the posts on here. Chelios goes down early in the 1st then a 5 man D core of Lebda, Lilja, Meech, Ericcson and Quincey helped Detroit carry the play.

How can the Flames expect even to compete with a full Detroit team?? I don't know, I think the most important thing is to draw Minnesota or San Jose in the 1st round and hope the team gels as it plays more intense games.

As for Vandermeer, not bad but Mikael Samuelsson burned him twice with the same move. A top four defenseman doesn't fall twice for that. He belongs on the bottom pairing.

Vandermeer was sketchy at best. He made several poor decisions with the puck. I can't understand why Keenan would play him for 19 mintues in his first game which was also against the top team in the league.

He shouldn't be used in more than a 6th/7th role at this point.

Well that was a entertaining game. As for Vandermeer it is way too early to judge him, personally I thought he had a good game, perfect no, but I'll willing to give him more then one game and limited practise time, before I make a judgement.

MVP: Kipper he was great last night, especially in the third period. HM to Tanguay he had a great game as well.
