Guys who interest me most: Beach, Filatov, and as a mid-late pick - Teubert.

I think you def go Best Player Available. Sure, today we need a scoring winger, but whose to say next year that Drury isn't on the wing? Nothing is a given with Anisimov (though I like him) that says we couldn't use another center in a few years. I'd rather have a top 2 line center than a 3rd line winger... because we took the lesser player... because at the time we thought we'd be good at center.

I'd love to see the Rangers get a bit of a bruiser on defense.

I've been saying the same thing.

The Rangers lack a bit of fear factor on the back line.

Any thoughts on who might be a good pick Edge?

Good to see you posting again by the way.

he's once in a while physical, pretty much exactly like mara. he'll take guys on hard along the boards, ride them off and angle them into the boards hard, haven't seen him chase open ice hits, and just looks like he's afraid of hurting guys sometimes simply because he's so much bigger. definately no killer instinct physically from what i've seen.

myer's bread and butter is his good skating (for his size), expansive reach/wingspan, and quick stick. he could turn out to be an awesome positional defender who breaks up a lot of plays with his head and hands rather than brawn.

A way better hockey player than previous 10th overall, Boris Valabik.

Thanks for the report, that's interesting...sounds a bit like the way Staal plays.

Any projection on where he may go? If he's around in the 2nd round I say snatch him up, pending the Rangers get a forward with their 1st

Anybody have any thoughts about AJ Jenks, Greg Nemisz or Joshua Bailey?

Does anyone know if the Rangers still have this pick or were the conditions met and its gone to the Canes?
I would bet that the conditions was that Car get a 5th if we had resigned Isbister. Don't make sense otherwise.

Bailey is a Sam Gagner type of player. Solid in every facet of the game, smart in every zone, a little taller than Gagner not as thick. Not too emotional like Dubinsky but definitely captain material. Top 10-15 material.

Jenks is a big boy, great skater with impressive strength on his skates. Such an aware and heady player. Jenks has great vision and ability to pass the puck. Great defensive forward. Certainly a two-way, playmaking power forward. Top 20-25 material.

If I was making a list like NHL teams do, I would leave Nemisz off the list altogether. I just do not like him at all. Though it would be just my luck that he turned out like Ryan Getzlaf. Terrible skater, passive, weak, scores a lot of garbage goals but not a threat offensively. People say Andreychuk, I say yuck.

After reading some of the stuff about Colborne, and his lack of intensity, my attention has turned to Jenks, someone who sounds like what the Rangers lack in the system.

I don't think he's what you're looking for. He's not the most intense of big guys. He's sort of a Betts type of physical. He's had one fight this year, so he's not really going to drop the gloves.

Just a big guy that uses his size to shield the puck, work the boards, drive the net rather than punish people.

apparently we don't have a 3rd round, 4th round or a 5th round pick this draft based on some fairly realizable conditions, according to this:
http://www.n-c-systems.com/hockey/DraftTrades/2008.html

3rd round = to LAK (Avery trade/conditional if Kings fail to re-sign Jan Marek)
4th round = to STL (Backman trade)
5th round = to CAR (Brad Isbister to Rangers/conditional)

P.S. apparently the LA Kings have 2 1st's, 3 2nd's, and 3 3rd's, and a total of 14 picks in 2008..

One player currently flying under the radar is defenceman Erik Karlsson. Debuted in the SEL this saturday, played close to 9 minutes and scored the game winner in overtime.

We've got Carolina's 3rd round pick from the Cullen deal.

Seems like a good draft to have that in. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to package those into the 1st overall if they don't win the lottery.

I understand why a lot of people are saying we need a bruiser on defense, but that's not where to go with the first round pick, that has to be addressed with the 3rd or 6th rounds picks we have-- and honestly, it's not impossible to find a defensive bruiser in the 3rd round.

The biggest problem this team is going to have is putting the puck in the net, especially with Shanahan, Jagr, and Straka on their way out (and Avery now too) the Rangers need to be thinking about drafting a first line player.

He's ranked 63 among European skaters by the NHL's Central Scouting Service.

I just sent Kyle Woodlief from RedLine Report an email about him, we'll see what, if anything, he has to say.
