He'll just get something 100 000 dollars of money what's the same amount that will affect to the cap. That 475k is just the mimimun wage if you play the whole year.

Ah, didn't realize that. I thought that when you sign an NHL contract it counts for the whole year no matter when it was signed. Still, happy to see the guy make a comeback. One of my favourite players of the 90's, but I hope that he shows more skill and heart then he did with the Flames in his last NHL stop.

Player hater? You think you're a rapper or something?

Anyways, McCarty is well known for his off-ice habits. As a Wings fan (unless you're new to the team) you should know about it better than I do.

The Red Wings aren't strangers to coked-up enforcers. Kocur, Probert and McCarty all come to mind.

If you were really keeping up, you would know he has made a turn around in his life, as Babcock says sobriety is a top priority. Your negativity to his efforts makes you 100% player-hater.

Dammit! Now Ice Cube and Dr. Dre will never like me!

Really, what I said in my first post in this thread was tongue-in-cheek, but it really isn't that out there. I like McCarty. I really do. Still, I'd bet that if McCarty wins the cup this year, he's going to be inhaling more lines than James Brown at Studio 54.

Yes, I think VERY highly of a player because I think he is better than Aaron Downy and Dallas Drake.

Look, I would love for the Wings to make some serious upgrades, but this little one does help some. I didnt say he was going to carry the Wings and win the Conn Smythe Trophy. But he is better than Downey and Drake.

Just a question IB.....does McCarty pull an NHL salary while on a conditioning stint or an AHL salary? I'm assuming it's a 2-way deal but it's probably not.

Yes, he still gets his NHL salary. Players on conditioning assignments are considered part of the 23-man Active Roster.

His salary [including signing bonus] is $535,000 - still no idea on performance bonuses.

Glad to see him back on a Red Wing contract. Honestly, many of us Wings fans were OK with parting ways after the lockout, his play was deteriorating and he was making more money than his worth. It was sad seeing his life spiral out of control, and I am glad Draper was there to help give him a shot at a comeback.

I was at his first AHL game this year, Grand Rapids was playing in Cleveland. He got a decent cheer from Wings/Griffins fans who made the trip down from Michigan, and I saw quite a few McCarty jerseys. He has been playing fairly well in the AHL, he'll get a shot at playing 4th line minutes for the Wings and they will decide if he is worthy of a spot over Drake or Downey. Hopefully having this chance will invigorate him to step up his game. Holland is giving him one hell of an opportunity and the benefit of the doubt on this one, I really hope he doesn't piss the chance to "resurrect" an NHL career away. He is far from a sure thing, but could be a good addition for a checking line player and extra energy that he brings to the crowd at The Joe.

I would also love it if they lined up the Grind Line to start a game, just like the old days. Every fan at The Joe would be on their feet cheering loudly.
