The official "shifting attention to new #1 center guy" thread

well since our softie of a GM didn't step up to the plate...who do we turn out attention to now? Marleau? Joikinen? Resigning Novotny? What a buzzkill

Novotny (while I know his mention is a joke) is under contract another year

#1 center by committee again, I'm guessing.

Brassard, perhaps? Another year of Peca? Brule? Novotny? Malhotra?

Just typing this makes me ill.

Step back from the ledge man, it's not worth it.

Could we stand a chance of landing Jokinen?

Let them embarrass themselves. It's fun to watch.

TSN reported that the price is pretty high. For Calgary, it included Tanguay.

I would have traded Leclaire, OKT and Parma for Richards.....we have Mason for next season and Richards would need time to adjust to our "system-less" system anyways

Seriously.

Howson had a chance to improve the team and to do so something that would've meant the playoffs would've been almost a lock at this stage. Almost certainly next year in any case. This sucks and if the team is here again next year still talking about getting someone like Marleau or some other guy who might be nearing the end of his prime as a stopgap when we could've had Richards this year, then that's freaking stupid. To try to defend Howson's "plan" at this point is ludicrous.

LeClaire is an RFA, and could be an expensive for TB, they might not have even wanted him.

Target Marleau. Still a chance Langkow is a UFA. If we decide to throw Brassard to the wolves to play on the first line, Brendan Morrison, Niko Kapanen, Josef Vasicek or, dare I say, Jeremy Roenick could be interesting second liners.

Good, but a better fit for Zherdev than anyone else.

Plan B: Marleau

Then again, who knows? Maybe Howson’s working on another big one. I talked to an agent today. He put this name in my ear … Patrick Marleau. Apparently, Marleau has fallen out of favor with some folks in San Jose, as much on the ice as off it.

Brass will eventually be lined up with Nash--finding a center for Zherdev, preferably a scoring center, would be most ideal.

Nigel Dawes would be a good one too, perhaps. Send Hainsey & Vyborney to the Rangers.

I'm disappointed too, but without knowing the details of the offer/counteroffer process, I can't criticize the man or the plan.
