Oh, what the hell, people. I back Howson up 100% on this one. I think he offered about the best package he could for Richards. Dallas just offered a better package. Let's see what happens should Turco get hurt, because I was under the understanding that Smith was his heir apparent. How deep are they in goal?

My other thought is Foote is not worth 4 mil a year, and Howson thinks this as well. Good-bye!

Let the fire sale begin. I mentioned in another thread that 5 points out with 18 games left is daunting.

Pick up a boat load of picks, trim some fat, and then pick up a couple of needed free agents in the off-season.

This season has been about what I expected. Next year we better see our first play-off appearance.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda, mighta.... **** it all. To hell with the past. What are we doing *now*?

I like the idea of Marleau as a stopgap until Brassard is ready. Will we win a Cup with that? Probably not. Will we at least be in halfway decent shape? I think so.

Marleau is our only chance to get a guy now. What would San Jose want?

Same old Blue Jackets, we'll be in the same situation 12 months from now, 11th in the West, doing nothing to get better. Laughable organization.

I don't see why SJ would want to trade Marleau.

You don't want to mess with chemistry too much when things are going well.....

Who is available? Why can no one answer this?

Hmm... by that logic shouldn't Dallas not have made such a big move?

Marleau has been popping up for days... Puck Rakers included him in their recent update, as well.

They can't answer it because no one is available.

The only C out there would be Langkow (who Calgary is trying to re-sign), Sundin (old and probably staying in Toronto) and Hossa (who could be signed by who ever he gets traded to)

Hossa isn't a center, but you've basically got it. Last year there was a bumper crop of centers. This year, most of the guys who were coming up on free agency that were in their prime got re-signed after their teams saw how much it was going to cost to replace them. There are a ton of guys age 32+ that are no longer #1 centers. There are a handful of younger guys like Kapanen who really are #2 centers at best.

there aren't alot of great ones out there this year(see link below for a listing), so I would think our money would be better spent on premier defensmen and working Brassard into the #1 role.

Nash is going to score 40 goals regardless of who centers that top line(this season is proof positive), and adding a Redden, Liles, Campbell on the blue line might get us more bang for our buck than pursuing a Comrie or Morrison at this point.

Redden? I'll pass on paying a d-man over $7 million/season

Don't remind me. Remember when we were told it was a GOOD thing that the CBJ just held tight to see what they had and that adding a couple of marginal guys was the right way to go while Howson devised his "plan".

Saying that you applaud the guy now for being in the mix for Richards even though he came up short is just as insulting as that nonsense.

Hopefully Howson can learn from his big mistakes this year and doesn't let this happen again.

Redden may not be the answer, but I'm pretty confident he won't get over 7 mill per. Who besides Lidstrom makes that kind of jack? Redden is having a so so season on a very good team, his value will go down from his current mark(6.5 per). He's 30 years old and his 70pt season is a thing of the past.

Personally, I like Liles or Campbell for the job, though Campbell might be pricey.

I agree. I'm a little sore from the way the chips have fallen, but that's a little much.

If Boyle is getting nearly $7 million, Redden will be getting that as well especially if the Jackets want him

I'm disappointed about Richards, but the sad thing is I'm not surprised. Columbus isn't a strong player when it comes to trading games, and it's going to be a mighty hard road to change that. It doesn't look like there's going to be much on the market in the way of hot centers between now and next year, so once again, it looks like it will be very difficult for us to fill what has long been our #1 gap. That's what bums me out the most. I'd like something to look forward to for next season. Right now, I'm not seeing it.

This is absolutely the point! Tampa has needed a goalie since Khabibulin left. Denis didn't work for them. They've been desperate for a goalie for years. Be realistic - what would we have given them? Not Pazzy, Not Mason and you know they wouldn't trade back for Norrena.

We couldn't give TB what they needed/wanted. The Stars could. It's that simple. It's not Howson's fault.

Is it a possibility GMSH will package the pick from the Av's with some other pieces to get Jokinen or Marleau<sp?>?
