On a positive note, the Habs don't have to face Hossa OR Ryder/Grabovski/Higgins/Lapierre.

1st, I am not surprised we did nothing - this is a very conservative organization. Right or wrong (so far they've been wrong).

But I am slightly confused. Last year, our team was not very good at the deadline, yet we decided to keep Souray, whereas this year, we seem to be better and we trade our experienced goalie in a wide open conference?

Bob really should explain himself, but like last year will probably be silent.

I sincerely believe that fans in Montreal who continually pack the house, deserve a more aggressive organization.

Our players won't be happy for sure. I can only imagine what Koivu and company are thinking right now. Tonights game could be a long one and so could the rest of the season. I'm afraid the players won't like what happen today one bit.

HUGE failure by Gainey, again!

I am sorry about this, but with the wealth of young players we have, I just cannot believe that Gainey could not beat/match what Pittsburgh paid, two 3rd liners and a prospect whose stock has kept going down in the past two years.

How can anyone be mad????

Ok lets look at this...

Esposito = Pax....almost in terms of draft position, i think pax is better though
Armstrong = lappy eventhough I like Armstrong more
Christianson = ??? not sure...solid 20 goal scorer
and a 1st round pick in a strong draft year!!!

That is way too much to pay. Lets be honest guys, we are not going to win the cup this year...this is about the next 5 yrs.

Anyway, I think Wandell wanted Higgins, Pacx +1st round pick for a RENTAL! NO THANK YOU!

To those who said Pit overpaid: get a clue. They gave NOTHING. A bunch of no-name unproven 3rd liners at best. Even Ryder exceeds all of those players, not to mention Grabo and others that we could have thrown in. Waddell is a hell of a retard, he is more to blame than Gainey. If Gainey really offered Ryder + Grabovski + whatever and DW didn't take it, then what a moron.

Lets continue being *****s and be scared of trading young players... Will be going nowhere... Very disapointing if he did nothing.

You can criticize Gainey all you want... but I don't see why that's happening.

At the 11th hour ... literally with less then 30 minutes left, Pittsburgh shows up and blows their brains out.

This is a horrible over-payment by the Penguins. Waddell gave Gainey and option to match that deal... but there's no way.

Would you be okay with Latendresse, Higgins, Chipchura and a 1st?

It's a huge price to pay. Gainey simply said no. And he was right.

Why, because he dealt his player to the highest bidder? That's the way it works. Waddell did a good job, he got the Pens to overpay.

I definitely agree. Some people may say that Pittsburgh overpaid for him, but I would've matched that payment. We have too much depth, and NO superstars ahead in the future. I can't believe that Bob thinks we didn't need a guy like Hossa for that price.

This is complete ********.
