Bob on Olli Jokinen: "If Florida gets the right deal today they will (trade him)... The Minnesota Wild, Anaheim, Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames all interested..."

This is from the Fort Lauderdale area newspaper:

The chances of center and captain Olli Jokinen being traded are slim, regardless of how strained his relationship with coach and General Manager Jacques Martin or recent struggles on the ice.

Thanks for the Links.

And I hope if we make a move it's for a Dman too.

Flyers in the Mix for Jokinen

I don't see how we could land him but i'd love to get him.

I don't care to get him. He's great and all but not my preference. I would rather make a play for a good defenseman.

OT: What happened to TSN's Positives/Negatives/Potential section in player profiles? I wanted to see what they have to say about Jokinen....

From an article...

If Nonis misses on Richards and still wants to land an impact centre, Plan B may be Olli Jokinen in Florida. At 29, he brings the cost certainty that Nonis is looking for with a salary that calls for $5.25 million next season followed by $5.50 million.

I wouldnt object to Smith and pick or prospect for Liles, but our defense is then tissue soft without Hatcher.

Damn.....

let's p*ss away some of our future for a good, YOUNG D-MAN. That's the only way this team REALLY improves. Say, 25 yrs. old or YOUNGER. We have depth at forward, need a Jack Johnson, Jay-bo, E. Johnson, etc., mortgage the future for somebody like these guys and the Flyers are in contention, for the next 5 or 6 yrs. Coburn is gonna be a GREAT #2, now lets add a #1, F'k 1st rd. draft picks the next few years, roll the dice while guys like Richards, Lupul, Umberger, Giroux, Downey etc. are in thier best years. Transition, transition, transition - impossible to stop a great transition team, the Flyers have the legs up front now we need some happy feet on "D".

I'd love to get Joikenen...very consistent player on a bad team...and he is a flyer killer.

How about this:

We deal for Joikenen and give up picks or prospects (no JVR, Girioux or Parent).

We then trade Briere in the offseason for a true number 1 dmen.

Unless we can make a deal with someone he wouldn't mind going to...maybe Montreal for Markov...not sure he'd go to the habs after fans hated how he didn't sign there...I guess it's not a possibility

Carter would have to be going the other way for Jokinen, which I dont think I would object to, but what is Jokinen's cap hit?

That's probably not all that far from the truth.

Cap hit is 5.25. I'd be down, if we could move Gagne for him. But i'm pretty sure you cant trade a guy on the IR
