I'd take Malone,.
Hossa will come a lot closer to giving you $10M quality hockey than Malone will to giving you $5M worth of hockey. I'd take Hossa for sure.

if those are the only options and i had to pick, i'd take hossa, but id choose neither at 10 mil and 5 mil, too much IMO.

I'd say we should get brian rolston for maybe 2 years at 4 mill, gives gags a shooter with size too work with and then maybe in 2 years, shcremp or nash can take over

Why would be only sign for 4 years?

He asks for 7 years minimum.

I think you missed the entire point. Write that line down third if it makes you feel any better. The entire point of that would be that there would be no one line overwhelmingly better than the other top-2, meaning that while one line was out against the shutdown lines, there would be two out there against less defensively capable competition.

If you want more toughness to the lineup, use one of those packages I talked about to add a couple skilled forwards with toughness. The key to that lineup is that there is alot of room for upgrades like that to make it more physical, better defensively, etc because of all the trading chips left over. Mike Fisher would be a pretty good fit IMO, although he isn't known for his toughness. He is basically a Horcoff clone. Jeff Carter would be a great fit. Physical, talented, and young, I would love to see him on the Oilers.

Other than Garon, great signing by Lowe, name me 2 UFA's from this past off season that weren't vastly overpaid?

Ryder won't get $4.75, and neither will Malone. $4 million, tops.

Penner was different. 29 goals in his first season and his salary inflated by an offersheet, which by design has to be a massive overpay to work.
