Thanks for that DSF.
Maybe it takes leaving to notice these things.

Well....thank you for being open minded enough to take the time to check it out.
Too many people are a closed book when it comes things that might contradict their world view....especially if it means questioning the main stream media.
It's refreshing to know that there are people out there, like yourself, capable of critical thinking.
PM me if you want some additional reading from professionals concerned about the "official version" of the events of that day.

Agreed. Admitting that Edmonton isn't a prime destination for free agents does not mean necessarily I'm insulting the city, there's just a long way to go before the city can compete with other, more attractive destinations. We have to over pay for free agents, there's nothing wrong with admitting it.

Scott Mckeen of the Journal has an interesting take.

It's was interesting timing to read his comment on Edmontons downtown not being very vibrant. I read that sitting in a Starbucks on Jasper Ave Monday (11:45 am) after having spent the night at the Chateu Lacombe. My girlfriend (also from Calgary) commented in line at Starbucks that it seemed like a Sunday because the streets were dead. I agreed and then I read Scotts comments moments later.

Well everything's relative.

Exactly. The problem is that Whitecourt isn't a rival destination for NHL UFA's.

I'd like to think we would have one up on them

It was an interesting read though to think that Edmonton is to Whitecourt what, let's say Toronto or Vancouver (I don't want to exaggerate and say New York) is to Edmonton. I suppose our problems are not so bad but obviously there aren't the same expectations out of Edmonton as there are Whitecourt. It seems as if parts of Edmonton have never really caught up with the economic growth and that areas of need that would enhance the city but would not provide immediate impact were neglected.
