On the bright side, a lot of the goals last year were from people like Smyth and Sykora, and this year their production has been picked up by Penner and the Kids.

We should have three twenty goal scorers (Horcoff, Penner, Hemsky) and several young 10-15 goal scorers (Brodziak, Cogliano, Gagner, Glencross, and Stoll).

Everything is just a little brighter then it was last year.

We should have had 4 20 goal scorers this year...look how that turned out.

actually.. horcoff + hemsky.. both have already exceeded their goal productions from entire season last year..
penner's 18 goals in 63 games cannot compare with smyth's 31 goals in 51 games..

penner only needs 10 points in the next 20 games to equal his totals from last year.

and the busted identity-less team should be happy that the guy that plays top line minute gets 45 points the entire season.. 45 for 4.5 mil money well spent..

The constant injury - excuse making has made me tune out the Oilers this year.

you're right, we should have kept smyth at 6.5, cause that would have been money well spent.

now now that's not what you and i are talking about.. you talked how happy you were about penner matching his last year's production of 45 pts.. and i gave you a dose of reality..

make yourself a list of players making the same or close to the same as penner and get back to me.

Good point, but nevertheless this team's offense is putrid. They need at least 1 more scorer in the top 6. A star player would be nice...

That's right, and if we increase our goal output by 7 goals a year, we should be winning that in about 13 years.

The offense obviously isn't satisfactory, and obviously we need at least one and probably two top-6 forwards (because it doesn't seem like either Stoll or Torres are going to get back to where they were a couple of seasons ago.)

But even though the Oilers aren't scoring more than last year, at least they're getting the production from the kids, rather than overpaid veterans. Floundering with a young lineup isn't much fun, but floundering with a bunch of overpaid veterans is worse.

Now that would qualify as a dose of reality.

The best sign is the number of nice goals the Oilers are scoring this year. Coming off of quality set ups.
