but doug would of gotten the deal done for Richards . now that i have sat and read what dallas gave up, im amazed.
not all prospect are going to make it. they all have experation dates. maybe im just a fool, but ill take a nhl all star in his prime, over a prospect goalie anyday. Goalie prospect pffft. goalies come and go. they dont all make it, hell most dont make it.
we just passed on a sure thing so we can take a chance on a maybe
so hey scott, next time you sit down at the negotiations table, bring your wife with you would ya. maybe she has some balls
Was a thread just like this yesterday. It either got merged or deleted. Edit: It got locked.
Either way, people have been saying all along (and I keep forgetting) that Tampa reportedly has a couple of good goalie prospects. They wanted a goalie they felt was a starter.

Thats is BS DKB. The only way we get this done is Pascal Lecalire plus more for Richards. Yea...Doug would have done that...and I would have KILLED him for it.
Read it again. THE ONLY WAY IT GETS DONE IF FOR LECLAIRE!!!
You would do this??? HUH?
Again and again. We are screwed right now BECAUSE of MacLean. And that my friend...is a fact.

Your name says it all. Glad Howson doesn't listen to your advice!!!
yes there was. saddly the tone of disscusion around here anymore is such that open debate is not welcome in these parts
but we can put stupid sayings in the GDT's now. YES!
as far as what tampa wanted. mike smith aint a bad back up. he certainly isnt a player that is so good we couldnt do something to make our offer a little better Mason has a much more attractive upside i would think long term.
But DKB...its well known that they wanted a goalie NOW...not later. Mason is 2-3 years away. They dont want that. They want it now...which is why they chose Smith over out package.

Different people have different opinions on Smith. I know Arace has already based his entire opinion around the fact that he considers Smith to be a backup, but others disagree. I'm pretty sure Pang was pretty high on the guy.
Mason probably has more upside longterm, but they wanted someone right now.
What about this...Garon is the next goaltender in Edmonton, Roloson could probably have been had. We trade for Roloson and then package him in a trade for Richards. Get it done Scottie....ohh, wait
Don't know about the Richards situation, but I know for damn sure that MacLean wouldn't have gotten a first rounder for Foote - he probably would have moved him for a seventh-rounder just to spite him, a result not exactly in the best interests of the organization.
TAMPA WANTED A GOALIE TODAY NOT 1-2 YEARS FROM NOW.
They already have a good goalie prospect. Tampa didn't even ask about Mason.
And XGMDM wouldn't have got it done because he would have been after the big name on the Market yesterday. First it would have been Sundin then it would have been Hossa because he was a fool.
If Doug was still here we wouldn't have seen a over .500 season so far and 5 points from playoffs. Not saying we are going to make the playoffs, but can we please stop saying "if doug was here" Doug was a cancer to the internal organization, and though he did many good things, he really did much more on the negative side over the years.
Everyone knows Tampa wanted a starting goalie. Were they behind Phoenix on the waiver list when Bryzgalov came up? That was the steal of the season on goalies, and TB missed it.
no one wants to win more than Scott Howson. He seems to be a pretty good judge of talent, and has experience in the hockey world. Much more so than our last GM and much more than you and I.
I don't mind differences of opinion, hate away.
Howson said Tampa never contacted him yesterday (they had our offers).. they weren't interested. Since they traded Norrena to us.. I am reasonably sure they didn't want him back. Since they were previously stung on the Denis for Modin/Norrena deal.(a point Doug has hammered on) I'm sure we weren't their first choice unless our package was over the top. We have an organization that is starting to get some depth.. but we don't have assets coming at all levels yet.
I wanted Brad Richards on the Blue Jackets years ago. I once had a conversation with MacLean about Richards.. he coveted him as well, but said it would likely never happen.
Now Doug openly criticizes this orgarnization again as a paid analyst and says Richards would have come if I was still there" Sour grapes does not look good on MacLean. He made so many bad decisions going back to not keeping Whitney, Tugnutt etc.. bringing in Semenov, Lapylon, Richardson.. Hrdina. not ot mention the terrible overpayments in salary of Foote, Federov, Marchant. Even when we had guys like Sydor we had no systems.. it was like watching blind mice.
For goodness sake Doug publicly stated we didn't need a good coach when he defended his devotion to Gallant.
We are taking steps in the right direction. I used to argue with my family (that are fans of ohter teams) - they said the Jackets are building arse backwards...it would all need to be rebuilt by the next GM. MacLean was an impatient, obnoxious man.. if you want to get mad.. get to the heart of the matter. rant off.

In before the lock
A men brother. You get to see it a whole lot closer than the rest of us. Bet you could tell some great anti-Doug stories.
