Are you suggesting that you have heard Dixon Ward's name recently? I haven't heard that in ages.

Great training camp try-out success story. Can't wait for the motion picture.

As much as you guys hate them, if the NYR ever win a cup with 5 and 18 they're going up there.

Auto-lock:
Lundqvist

Should be there now:
Ratelle
Boucher

Would get there with a cup win and/or award wins:
McDonagh

Multiple cups and/or award wins:
Zucc

Boucher was #7 right? I think for that reason, and because he died 50 years ago, it's very unlikely he'll get a banner. But he's very deserving.

Here's what I wrote for Puck Daddy's "League of Nations" long time ago:

Quote:
While it was hard not to pick Mark Messier here, Frank Boucher doesnít get enough love for his work in the Rangersí early years. Boucher was a part of the Rangersí first three Stanley Cup wins ó as a player in 1928 and 1933, and as head coach in 1940. Boucher is 15th all-time in Rangers scoring, with 152 goals and 261 assists for 413 points in 533 career games, all with the Rangers. He won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy seven seasons out of eight, from 1927-28 through 1934-35.

Boucher led the Rangers in scoring five times over his career. He was in the top 10 in league scoring seven times, topping out at second in the 1929-30 season. He was named as center of the NHL First All-Star team three straight seasons from 1932-33 to 1934-35, and could have been named more times but the All-Star teams had yet to be introduced during the first four seasons of his career.

Boucher also coached the Rangers for 11 seasons after his playing career was completed. During one particularly rough season, the 42 year old coach suited up for 15 games, notching 4 goals and 10 assists. At that time, he hadn't played for five seasons. Luckily Glen Sather didn't coach the Rangers long enough to try that.

Lundqvist will be there.

Ratelle should be there.

Boucher and Bill Cook have a good case.

If the Rangers were the Montreal Canadiens:
Bun Cook
Ching Johnson
Bill Gadsby
Ron Greschner
Vic Hadfield

in some towns, guys like Tkachuk and Greschner, almost 1000 games, as leading players, and career Rangers, would get the recognition

but while i am a fan of banners, honor circles and hall of fames,
not a big fan of retiring numbers, i think its overkill
you want wait a few years before reissuing a number, fine

pretty funny about how greatness has avoided #12, aside from pretty much only Don Maloney and Andy Hebenton

and when someone mentioned #25, I thought of Potsy, may he RIP

I think the fact that he was #7 should make it a give-in that he's also given a banner, but you're right - the amount of time between his death and now extremely lessens the chance he gets one.

For a team that's won four cups ever, to not retire the number of the guy who was the star for two of them and the coach for one is ridiculous to me.

I think really what the Rangers need to do is open a proper "Rangers hall of honor" or something to that extent. Frankly, I'm shocked MSG hasn't done a broader MSG/Knicks/Rangers museum and charge money for it, because I'm sure it'd be a cash cow.

I also have fond memories of Walt Tkaczuk. Solid consistent two way leader for 14 years I believe. All with us!

I was just rummaging through some old boxes and what do I find but an autographed Brad Park 1972-73 card. He deserves to be in a Ranger ring of honour.

If the Rangers won the cup while Girardi and Staal played well after they played here for there entire careers, I would be very angry that there numbers were retired , and I will protest their advanced stats when the Rangers win the next cup with the real players in 2088.

Yeah I've had a rant or two on the board here about how on gods green earth Jean Ratelle's #19 isn't up in the rafters.

He's good enough to be in the hockey HOF...yes?

He's good enough to be in the recently revealed Hockey-100 at the all star game which supposedly is the greatest 100 players in hockey history...yes?

But for some stupid bizarre reason, Ratelle a point per game player during his 16 years as a Ranger is apparently not worthy of having his #19 retired here at MSG? Ratelle even wore his #19 at the all-star game festivities and it was a sight for sore eyes. Made me so proud. Makes no sense he wasn't up there when Gilbert had his #7 retired as that would have been the perfect time.

I admit I'm biased as he was my favorite Ranger along with Brad Park when I started to love, follow and play the game of hockey in the early 70's. Whatever the case, it's a travesty that he's had to wait this long. He's 75 years old and is not getting any younger. It would be a damn shame if his #19 doesn't get retired before he is no longer with us to see it happen at MSG and all of us giving him the respect and appreciation for his superlative play it deserves.

Hopefully this wrong is made right in the next year or so as it really bugs me that Ratelle hasn't been given the respect he deserves by Ranger organization.

As far as current players, only player that is obvious is Hank...not even a question #30 is going up in the rafters and he'll be making the HOF as well.

Not sure about anyone else to be honest. If Nash gets to 500-550 goals and well over 1000 points which is very possible, he'll likely be in consideration for the hockey HOF and I wonder if maybe MSG might think about it as well if we won a Cup with him on it.

McDonagh is only other player in consideration IMO and that's only if we win a Cup.

Bottom line...get Ratelle's 19 up there already...it's way overdue...sheesshee

I'm old school. The only non hall of famer I would put up there would be Greshner (along with Richter).

I view #9 as Bathgate.

I would put Ratelle as others mentioned as well.

Aside from being a very good player for the franchise, I think Graves' off ice, charitable work bumps him up quite a bit hence the retirement ceremony. That might not fit everyone's definition of jersey retirement "legitimacy" but I can see why the organization made that move.

Bathgate obviously deserves it too though.
