Malkin's hit was an interference, and he targeted the head (principle contact was shoulder to head). Hard to determine if he intentionally left his feet, or if the contact caused him to leave the ice. Dirty yes, vicious no.
Buff could have avoided contact, he slowed, but continued through to the hit, equally dirty. Trouba's hit was 100% clean, shoulder to shoulder, as the Pens announcers said. Lowry's hit was also clean, he finished his check on the last guy to have the puck.

For those that are commenting on the interference/contact rules.......learn the rule before you discuss it. It isn't "if he is close enough to play it" or "if he attempts to play it", it is if he had control of it. That being said, I don't see anyone getting suspended.

With the Penguins playing the Jackets tonight in less than 9 hours, I kinda doubt Malkin will be suspended if nothing has been said at this point.

Uh no?

Explain the difference of me saying he's a dirtbag vs Pens fans calling him silly and loveable.

Won't be a suspension but should be. Star players rarely get suspended. Penguins also rarely get suspended.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

As for the hit= horrible. It looks like he does jump into the hit, imo. It's disgraceful, immature, and cowardly for such a reaction.

Maybe the whole "didn't deserve to be a top 100 of all time" finally got to him and poor Wheels had to pay for the end result? Perhaps.

Exactly. And for people calling for the NHL to "take steps to stop this", LOL. The NHL is the worst sport for policing it's own game, it always has been.

Again, less fighting will mean more cheap shots. Get used to it. And I don't mean preplanned goon fighting, I'm talking about the instigator rule which was the dumbest rule every put in place by the NHL.

That is why in the above example Orpik was not subject to further discipline whatsoever even though he hit a player who clearly never touched the book.
Why the hell are we discussing a hit from 4 years ago that isn't even remotely similar to Geno's hit on Wheeler.

I provided the wording to the rule that says you have to touch the puck to be eligible to be hit. Point me to the rule with your interpretation of "as long as you're near the puck, fair game!"

Yes, I realize there's a fair bit of subjectivity in how interference is enforced, specifically when retrieving passes and loose pucks. I never argued otherwise.

I am very curious if Bettman has the balls to suspend Malkin.

It is not often he suspends players from his two favorite teams Pittsburgh and Chicago.

ETA: If this thread was on Toews instead of Malkin, the mods would have locked it at page 10. But it's a Penguins player so I fully expect a 2 part, 70 page toxic bashfest, as per the norm.

Malkin probably gets a game. But the crap of hitting players without the puck like Lowry on Maatta should also be addressed. Olli out six weeks for a needless and intentional hit should he be suspended the next 6 weeks as he caused the injury. Hit on Schultz was boarding but when you don't call the obvious, games are not at their best. Until the cement heads are gone, the game will never be as good as it can be.

I've hated Malkin since he prematurely ended Willie Mitchell's tenure with the Canucks. Wasn't a suspension then, won't be one now.

I think you need to understand the rules a LOT better before posting them.

Should be a hell of a game tonight, hoping both teams are at or near 100% (including Malkin on the ice).

Hoping Hartnell is back on the ice too. He lives for these games.
