I wouldn't totally object to a 1 year contract. Malik has faced a lot of adversity over the past couple of years (much of it his own fault), but he's certainly done a not-too-bad job inspite of it. I think his feuds with Renney and Avery were overblown in terms of how significant they are at this point in time. Remember, after the Avery fight, Renney went over to Malik and said something to the effect of "Nice job, big guy." I don't think Renney and Malik have bad feelings, the past is the past. Ditto for Avery.
That being said, I really only want Malik back if he plays the way he's played over the past couple of weeks, and takes less than 2.5 million.
no way. id rather take a chance and give Sang to make the team. Vlasic out of San Jose made it last year as a 19 year old. Id like Sang to get a real shot.
We have three young players on defense already--with all of them (not surprisingly) showing inconsistancy and making rookie mistakes--there's no way Sather will not sign several more veteran defensemen to round out the defense corp. And the defenseman in the system with the best chance of making the team is NOT a player who has played only a couple of games professionally.
The "prospect" with the best chance of making the NHL roster out of training camp next fall is Andy Hutchinson.
I'd say slim and none. Why would he want to come back here? I know he has buddies on this team, but come one, the guy gets killed by the fans every night. When you pick up assists and your name gets booed, I doubt you'd be looking to sign up for more of that.
