To put a little perspective how impressive all those goals Bobby has racked up on defense are in the OHL:

-Last player to score over 25 goals on defense was back in 2001-2002 (27 goals)

-Last player to score over 30 goals on defense was back in 1999-2000 (31 goals)

-Those were the only 2 defenseman since 1999-2000 to score over 25 goals..and now Bobby Sanguinetti. He still has a few more games to hopefully get a few more.

There are 5 games left in his regular season....

He played 67 games last season and scored 23 goals...

This season he already has 26 goals in 56 games and will have only played 61 games when all is said an done....

Oh and he has already topped last season's point total by 11 points this season with 5 games to go and will finish having played 6 less games...

just double checking, but the lower game total is because of the WJC right?

Checkers got whooped tonight 7-1 by Mississippi. Lee with the goal, Graham with the assist. Ayers in net for this one.

Yup, he was overlooked last year for the U.S. WJC team....

So had he not missed those games this season, he would probably hit the 30 goal plateau which is damn impressive....

not so much overlooked, as screwed because he went to Canadian juniors rather than the USNTDP

Out of curiosity, if Cherepanov's team gets eliminated, is he eligible to come over and play in Hartford?

The AHL has already set the Clear Day rosters and Chere isn't on the list for Hartford. They can add signed junior or college players after their seasons end, or players on amateur tryouts, but I don't think Chere would qualify for an ATO contract.

The RSL is a professional league, so I would think they'd only be able to offer Chere a PTO (Professional Tryout) contract and thus he would not be eligible to play in Hartford until next year.

The only way it would be possible for him to play this year I think is if we signed him to an NHL contract, but I don't see that happening until next year as teams are limited to a maximum of 50 NHL contracts.

I think Korpi signed a PTO, but I am not sure.

Anyway, it might be more important for Chere to work off the ice in Russian then to play in the AHL. He needs to get stronger. It could be a bit to early for him to play in teh AHL.

From looking at the shape his last offseason in Russia left him in I say get the kid over here the day his season ends and let Gernander and Schoenfeld start working him into real shape.

Not sure about Korpi, but as long as he is on the Clear Day roster, it doesn't matter what type of contract he has. Since Chere isn't on that roster, he has to have an NHL or ATO contract, I think. It's possible that a standard AHL contract would work in place of an NHL contract, but I'm not sure if they can do that with the Rangers holding his rights.

Even if it's possible in some way, I still don't expect it to happen. We'll just have to wait

Yeah...I'd really like it if the Rangers org. could talk to him and help him with an offseason workout plan. I don't know how feasible that is, however. His Russian team might not like that at all and it could cause hard feelings and more trouble down the road if they did.

But I kind of get the impression that his Russian team doesn't exactly feel the need to spend the time and energy to develop him more as a player. They know he's likely leaving for the NHL, so why bother putting in time, energy, and money designing a workout plan and helping him get better? Maybe someone who follows the RSL more closely can comment on that, however.

Jess Rubenstein's (Blueshirt Bulletin) write up on Bobby Sanguinetti in his Prospect Park blog:

http://theprospectpark.blogspot.com/

Quote:
Star of the Day

There are times when prospects fall victim to the hype of their potential and then there are those who simply exceed the expectations leaving you wondering just how good they will become.

Bobby Sanguinetti is the latter as every single time we think we have figured out just how good he is going to become; Sanguinetti shows us that he is going to become better than that.

The easy part to talk about was Sanguinetti scoring his 26th goal of the season, how it was the game winner in his Brampton Battalion's 3-1 win over the Guelph Storm. It was his third game winner of the season and gave Sanguinetti back his lead in the prospect-scoring race with 65 points (26-39-65).

Sanguinetti earned the game's Second Star for his overall efforts however; it was his defense that we felt stood out today. For a prospect who has been labeled a one way defender, Sanguinetti's defense has been greatly improved over last season.

Sanguinetti has under the tutelage of his coach Stan Butler worked very hard on improving his defensive side and it is showing. After a +2 on Sunday Sanguinetti is now up to a +9 on the season, which is a major improvement over the -16 Sanguinetti, had last season with Owen Sound.

We are seeing that Sanguinetti is doing a better job of reading and understanding the plays as they unfold in front of him. Another difference is how Sanguinetti is allowing the game to come to him instead of trying to guess what the other team is going to do.

However, to us the biggest difference we are seeing is a confidence in both himself and his teammates, which is leading to Sanguinetti not playing as if he has to win every game by himself. That sense of confidence is allowing Sanguinetti to play a relaxed game where he can trust himself to make the right plays. His numbers are backing our beliefs in his improvements up.

Do not get us wrong, the biggest part of Sanguinetti's game is always going to be his offensive skills as in today's NHL we are not seeing many 20 goal scoring defensemen but we will when Sanguinetti develops his NHL game. We believe that Sanguinetti is going to be a 20-25 goal a season scorer with the Rangers as his ability to create his own offense is going to make the rest of the offense that much better.

has to be a typo because that would mean he is getting an average of 25 minutes in penalties per game.

Hockeydb has Kaspar with only 83PIM, the other numbers are accurate.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php3?pid=2652

On Cherepanov, if Avangard has a quick playoff exit, can't we get him playing over here somewhere, even if he's not AHL eligible, or NHL ready? Charlotte perhaps? anything to give him some NA experience..
