The United Center and other Questions

We'll be visiting Chicago for an upcoming game. I just have a couple questions that I hope can be answered.

Is the United Center in a good part of the city?
What's the best way to get to the United Center?
How expensive is parking, should we choose to drive?
Do you have any other tips for us?

Thanks for the help!

UC is not in a bad location, but the surrounding neighborhoods are not great.

Paying to park is not bad at all, if I remember correctly it was like 10 or 12 dollars. What is nice is that getting out of the UC parking lots is quite quick.

One route that me and my dad have taken for years is taking Grand Ave. east to Damen. Take a right on Damen then head to Madison St. where you make a left and you are at the UC. However, it all depends though where you are coming from.

United Center is in a decent area. Depending on what you consider "bad," you could say it's near some bad parts of the city. I don't think so, though.

Parking goes from $15-20, depending on how close you are to the arena.

I'm no good with directions though.

The UC is at 1901 West Madison Street in Chicago, IL. There is a bus route that operates from downtown Chicago and would let you off directly in front of the UC. See the URL below.

Go to a map web site and enter the above address and you can get an idea of where it is and an optional free parking on a nearby street.

You can park free on South Wood Street, southeast of the UC and about two blocks away. I have parked there several times without incident.

If you going to a Sunday game, you might be able to park on West Jackson in front of Malcolm X College. West Jackson is one way going east. If it is a weekday game, the parking spaces will most likely be filled.

1-UC is in a mixed income area! Used to be bad but it has improved dramatically over last 10 years!

2-I suck with directions!

3-About the same as any stadium.

4-Dont act up when at game! We dont tolerate that type of behavior anymore. More family oriented now than it used to be.

If you bus it I believe it's the #20 you want after the game.

As I was told if you walk out main doors of the UC turn right not left if you want to live.

Is that the Madison or Adams side? One way to find out, I guess.

Anyways, the Blue Line subway (to Forest Park) from downtown is generally a lot quicker than the bus. Get off at UIC Medical Center, leave the platform via the long west ramp and walk two blocks north.

I'd say come and sit with us diehards up in 326, but you might get killed in your Jackets jersey. A friend of mine ended up sitting next to Jared Boll's parents the other day, said they were good people.
