Bonk's +/-

Does anyone else find it intriguing that Radek Bonk is sporting a -25?

the next closest is Smithson with a -13.

I know he most often goes up against other team's top lines...but it just really sticks out when most everyone on the team is at worst near even or >-10

Someone suggested a day or three back that Bonk has the highest +/- of any player in the NHL this season.

Personally I don't put a lot of stock in +/- ratings. There are just too many variables involved---too many things out of an individual players control when their line is scored on.

I'm more bothered by the fact that after an enormously hot start, he's been almost useless in most other regards since.

Thats a good point....Bonk scored quite a bit early this season....like to see him get back to that.I wonder if his hand/arm which he injured earlier this season is still bothering him???

you mean lowest? Yea he's definitely hangin with the bottom feeders. Richards and Briere have been hanging around that number all season, too.

I was thinking about this during the Sabres-Flyers game. Bonk initially made me feel great about getting rid of Hartnell, but these days Scotty is looking like an All Star in comparison.

Don't forget that most of Bonk's points came on the power play at the beginning of the year and he doesn't see any pp time now. This also leads to some of the misleading +/- since he doesn't get a + for any of his pp points.

I'm just as aware as everyone that +/- is misleading, but when you're DOUBLE anyone else on you're team, it has to mean something, IMHO.

As far as the powerplay points, I don't think that has any legs. there are lots of guys that don't have PP time, that aren't sporting this -25 crap

I wasn't making excuses for the horrid +/- I was pointing out that the reason Bonk was getting points at the beginning of the year and not now is because he was getting pp time then and not now.

This was a topic of discussion at the beginning of the year also when he was putting up points. Imo I think this is just the perfect storm of little things coming together to create an awful stat.
